I don't know if we're talking about the same problem, but what I hate about natural tables as well (although I use them all the time) is very bad spacing: horizontal offset is too narrow and vertical offset is too big (well, it also depends on content, but in general \starttable/tabulate looks much better regarding spacing). If I want smaller table I usually do \startbuffer[name] ... table ... \stopbuffer \externalfigure[\jobname-name.tmp][scale=...] but that is not *the* solution. Tables still look bad that way. The main problem is that there is no special parameter for horizonal offset and vertical offset for \framed, otherwise the user could modify that at least to some extent. Re: [NTG-context] Natural table + interlinespacing
Mojca Miklavec wrote: I don't know if we're talking about the same problem, but what I hate about natural tables as well (although I use them all the time) is very bad spacing: horizontal offset is too narrow and vertical offset is too big (well, it also depends on content, but in general \starttable/tabulate looks much better regarding spacing). If I want smaller table I usually do \startbuffer[name] table ... \stopbuffer \externalfigure[\jobname-name.tmp][scale=...] but that is not *the* solution. Tables still look bad that way. The main problem is that there is no special parameter for horizonal offset and vertical offset for \framed, otherwise the user could modify that at least to some extent. I have no idea how usual tables create nice spacing. the ofsset is around all edged (maybe some day i will add more offsets but only when my machine is 10 times faster) the vertical spacing is just as in normal text and is detemined by the strutheight / depth and lineheight; of course you can change that but it may make your docs sensitive for unequal spacing tabulate uses the line parameters as well and the other table mechanism as (imo) bad spacing in paragraphs anyway anyhow, you can make 'm as ugly as you want \starttext \setupcolors[state=start] \startsetups mojca \setupinterlinespace[.8] \leftskip2em \rightskip2em \stopsetups \setupTABLE [setups=mojca] \setupTABLE [y] [first][background=color, backgroundcolor=blue, frame=off, bottomframe=on,topframe=on,framecolor=white] \setupTABLE [first][first][backgroundcorner=2,corner=10,frame=on] \setupTABLE [last] [first][backgroundcorner=4,corner=12,frame=on] \setupTABLE [row] [each] [background=color, backgroundcolor=blue, frame=on,framecolor=white] \setupTABLE [first][2][corner=8] \setupTABLE [last] [2][corner=5] \setupTABLE [first][last] [corner=7] \setupTABLE [last] [last] [corner=6] \startTEXpage \bTABLE[frame=off,align=middle] \bTR \bTD one \eTD \bTD two\eTD \bTD three \eTD \eTR \bTR \bTD first \eTD \bTD second \eTD \bTD third \eTD \eTR \bTR \bTD alpha \eTD \bTD beta \eTD \bTD gamma \eTD \eTR \eTABLE \stopTEXpage \stoptext the corner trickery is in the latest beta (made that today) - don't ask why -) Hans - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

So even the use of | as argument of some macro like \FOO[data={||abcx}]{..} is not recommended (without prior catcode change). I use the symbols as an abbreviation for different MP graphics, and it wouldn't make sense to write \letterbar every time. Re: [NTG-context] an encoding for turkish
R. Ermers wrote: Hi, I am preparing a document in xml docbook. The general output with Context is fine. However, in my main text (Dutch) I use some Turkish as well. Next to the xml-editor, I use Textpad, whose unicode support is not optimal, so for the time being I save the file in iso 8859-9. This encoding is identical to latin-1, but with the 6 symbols ETH, eth, THORN, thorn, Yacute, yacute replaced by Gbreve, gbreve, Scedilla, scedilla, Idotabove, dotlessi (see e.g. http://www.gar.no/home/mats/8859-9.htm). Now I can't figure out which encoding to use in my Context document (I also considered using a code in the xml, but that is not a very attractive idea). Do we need to set up a separate coding for Turkish (like for Polish, Slowak and Romanian)? use utf8 - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context
[NTG-context] Make page number appear on top of image
Hi, I want to combine some papers into a single pdf file with page numbers. I am including the papers using \copypages[filename] However, the pagenumber is not printed when the paper is a scanned copy. I guess this is because the page number is printed and then the scanned image is printed on top of it, thereby hiding the page number. How can I force the page number to appear on top? Re: [NTG-context] Problems mapping Xml into ConTeXt
Hans Hagen wrote: Michael Wigston wrote: 1. This def of u does nothing ... \defineXMLgrouped [u] \underbar \defineXMLargument[u]{\underbar} underbar is not a font switch but a macro that takes an argument Hans, Thanks, that works fine with \underbar, as well as \underbars, \overstrike, \overstrikes, \low, \high and \lohi. You mentioned that \underbar (and presumably the others I mentioned above) are macros taking arguments e.g. \acommand{...}. However presumably something like \midaligned{...} is also a macro requiring an argument, but this works as a \defineXMLgrouped and as a \defineXMLargument - why does it work with both? The manual XML in ConTeXt very briefly sketched over these XML commands and I can see great potential to use them directly on XML to generate ConTeXt for PDF rather than the XSLT/XSL-FO route which seems to be gaining momentum in much of the industry. I don't suppose there is another more detailed document which elaborates on the XML commands, and how you may determine which of these is most appropriate for what kind of ConTeXt command mapping? Also at the moment a non-mapped element seems to automatically type out its contents as straight text - is there a way to override this behaviour and specify this as an error? (This is rather like the Ruby duck-typing approach - if an XML element is mapped, process it, else it is an error).
