Thanks, I'll adapt my typescripts, then. But shouldn't setting font
features work as well? Seems odd that the behaviour that disables
kerning and ligaturing occurs in exactly this particular context.

I think so, it has also the advantage that you can set italic and boldcaps.
Seems odd that the behaviour that disables

I have two problems related to the table of contents that I can't resolve
from my understanding of the documentation:
1. The table of contents is printed out of order in the PDF. It seems that
\completecontent must appear before the preface or foreword if they are to
be listed in the TOC. However, the Chicago Manual of Style calls for them to
be placed before the TOC in the book.
2. The introduction is placed in the frontmatter because placing it in the
bodymatter causes it to be treated as chapter 1. This location results in
the introduction having the same first page header as front matter. That
means that the introduction cannot be given a "fancy" first page similar to
the numbered chapters without giving it to the TOC, etc.

Whoops! I misstated what is happening. I confused myself. Item 2 is the problem. The TOC and book order are correct. Pardon me for another small question.
I want to structure my document into topics, surrounded by start/stop,
numbered and with caption.
I discovered that enumerations do numbering, but don't allow caption to
pass, and descriptions allow captions, but don't numerate.
Is there a middle of these? )

[NTG-context] (no subject)
The following example computes page numbers correctly, places the correct
entries into the TOC, and produces the desired page headers on the first
pages of chapters. However, there are some things it doesn't do properly:
1. It puts headers on blank pages at the ends of chapters even after I
inserted the code that takes care of that problem.
2. It seems to ignore some commands or wait until the next chapter to
implement them. An example is the header on page vi. It's supposed to read
viContents
3. It seems that commands in the \startsectionenvironment frontmatter block
are ignored or overridden by commands that are for the body part. That is
why I have so many setup commands ib the \starttext section.
