Hi all,

I'm working on my thesis and I need a mechanism very similar to float

My problem is the following: I've boxes to display corresponding to
operators. They should be numbered (like figure, tables, etc.) and
having a list is a plus and I should be able to do \about[myoperator] to
display the name of the operator.

I tried to declare a float and it works perfectly, except it is floating

I tried enumeration but I can't do \about and I really need it.

After switching to the "smallcaps” font feature set, the surrounding
“default” set is not restored when leaving the group if and only if
the \bgroup was the first token inside the footnote.

(I know lm doesn't offer smcp as font feature but the problem is the
same with the font I'm using. Try it e.g. on Minion from the acroread

When you take a closer look you can see kerning is also lost in the first
footnote but when you need smallcaps only for the regular font you can
use typescripts.

[NTG-context] Documentation for \completecontent

2010-04-18 Thread Tom
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Category:Reference/en includes no references
for \completecontent or \placecontent. "Context the Manual" discusses the
commands a bit but does not define them. Given that \completecontent is
listed in group 2 of the Top Ten Context commands that a beginner might
focus his or her attention on in the introduction to "Context the Manual,"
one might expect a bit more documentation of the command.

I have two problems related to the table of contents that I can't resolve
from my understanding of the documentation:

1. The table of contents is printed out of order in the PDF. It seems that
\completecontent must appear before the preface or foreword if they are to
be listed in the TOC. However, the Chicago Manual of Style calls for them to
be placed before the TOC in the book.

2. The introduction is placed in the frontmatter because placing it in the
bodymatter causes it to be treated as chapter 1. This location results in
the introduction having the same first page header as front matter. That
means that the introduction cannot be given a "fancy" first page similar to
the numbered chapters without giving it to the TOC, etc.

Follows is an example of a document that illustrates 1, above:

\starttext
\startfrontmatter

\completecontent[alternative=c]

Hello,

"is there any bonus when I use \define instead of \def?"

1. \define checks if the command you try to create already exists,
   if this is the case no new command is created but you get a message
   on the terminal

2. you can give the number of arguments as a number (e.g. \define[2]\...{})
   while \def expects them with the hash (e.g. \def\...#1#2{...})

3. depending on your style you can avoid one '%' at the end of the first
line

   \def\...#1#2%
 {...}

   vs.

   \define[2]\...
 {...}

4. a disadvantage is that you can't create commands with optional arguments,
   Hans showed a different which made this possible in mkiv but it made it
   in the official version of \define

5. the wiki page mentions you can create \long macros with \define but
   this isn't the case in mkiv because each macro is no \long

Re: [NTG-context] [ppchtex] \normalifx: Undefined control sequence

2010-04-18 Thread Hans Hagen

Hello,

thanks to contributors of this list I was able to use ppchtex with
LaTeX when I encountered a "\writestatus: Undefined control sequence"
problem:

http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2009/044672.html

Everything went well (though I have a little use of ppchtex) but, as I
tried it some days ago, I was facing another trouble pointed out by the
following MCE:

\listfiles{}
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{etex,m-pictex,m-ch-en}
\begin{document}
\startchemical
\chemical{2H_2,PLUS,O_2,GIVES,2H_2O}
\stopchemical
\end{document}

The error is:

! Undefined control sequence.
\dodogetgroupargument ->\normalifx

can you check if your ppchtex.noc file has

\input supp-mis.mkii \let\writestatus\undefined
\input syst-gen.mkii
\input syst-fnt.mkii

i.e loads the mkii files?

i font, get the cont-tmf.zip file from our website and unzip it in your
tex tree (and run mktexlsr afterwards)

This example doesn't produce roman numerals with

ConTeXt ver: 2010.04.16 00:11 MKIV fmt: 2010.4.16 int:
english/english

With mkii they are ok.

[NTG-context] (no subject)

2010-04-18 Thread Tom
The following example computes page numbers correctly, places the correct
entries into the TOC, and produces the desired page headers on the first
pages of chapters. However, there are some things it doesn't do properly:

1. It puts headers on blank pages at the ends of chapters even after I
inserted the code that takes care of that problem.

2. It seems to ignore some commands or wait until the next chapter to
implement them. An example is the header on page vi. It's supposed to read
viContents

3. It seems that commands in the \startsectionenvironment frontmatter block
are ignored or overridden by commands that are for the body part. That is
why I have so many setup commands ib the \starttext section.

%figure on left - chapter number and title on right

At the moment I use \def\compoundhyphen{-} instead of \setuphyphenmark.
It seems to work (mkii).
