[NTG-context] teletype style in type-win.mkiv
Hello all, I'm afraid I've never spent the time to understand fonts properly, I just make do with the defaults most of the time. Now, however, I am being forced to use company default fonts for some documents. I have got as far as using the following commands to setup my body font: \usetypescriptfile[type-win] \usetypescript[arial] \setupbodyfont[arial, 10pt] But the teletype style now has no effect: e.g. using {\tt teletype} gives the same font as normal, and \showbodyfont reveals the same. I've tried making sense of the type-win.mkiv file but it's beyond me! Any suggestions how to get \tt to use Courier New, for instance? Thanks, Richard Converteam UK Ltd. If you cannot make any changes yourself and if your admin objects, you probably won't be able to use rsync for the distribution." Yes, I am behind a firewall. No, port 873 is not open. No, I cannot make any changes, and yes, my admin objects :-( So what's the alternative to using rsync? I used to use the zip file at http://www.pragma-ade.com/download-4.htm but that doesn't exist any more! Personally, for serious writing, I use the rather cumbersome, but grammatically correct, 'he or she'. I personally don't like 'he/she'. [NTG-context] MKIV numbering
Hello, Does anyone else have the following problems with numbering for figures, equations etc in MKIV 1. Using \setupnumbering[way=bysection] does not work 2. The colour of references to figures etc is wrong. The example below illustrates the problems. Try compiling in MKII and MKIV and note the differences. \setupcolors[state=start] \setupinteraction[state=start,color=darkgreen,style=normal] \setupnumbering[way=bysection] \startuseMPgraphic{Circle} draw fullcircle scaled 2cm; \stopuseMPgraphic \starttext \section{First section} See \in{Figure}[fig:Circle]. \placefigure[here][fig:Circle]{A circle}{\useMPgraphic{Circle}} \placeformula[eq:pythag] \startformula c^2 = a^2 + b^2 \stopformula \section{Second section} See \in{Figure}[fig:Circle] on \at{page}[fig:Circle]. There's another feature that would be REALLY useful in texshow-web: the ability to show the output from code, in the same way that the Wiki shows the output from code between and . > No, not like those. I mean like a real manual. I read the book > about Hasselt---a few examples without explanations. I am absolutely gobsmacked (astounded, astonished) at some of the comments on this and other threads! "ConTeXt - an Excursion" and "ConTeXt the Manual" together are wonderful. I still consult them at least once a week after 4 year's use. If you actually tried the examples in the former, rather than just reading them, you would be an expert user within 2 days! It would be nice to think that the community could construct documentation, but good, coherent documentation is much harder to produce than good code! It works for collections of small articles (WikiPedia etc), but I've never seen a good book written by a community. While it would be nice to have an updated "ConTeXt the Manual", in my humble opinion the biggest hole in the documentation is a reference for each command. Texshow-web should fill this gap and this is where the community CAN contribute, and where the mechanism already exists. And because it's made up of small articles it could work. When I learn about a command I try to fill in a few words in texshow-web. If everyone added a few words each time they learn a new command, we would soon have a fantastic reference source. Richard P.S. One request for improvement to texshow-web: the source-file for each command is included in cont-en.xml, could this be displayed on the command web-page? It would make it easier to find the source if you need to. Converteam UK Ltd. Registration Number: 5571739 and Converteam Ltd. Registration Number: 2416188 Registered in England and Wales. I am using Npp 5.5.1 and the calltips for C++ work okay. I saw the startitemize tip in the context.xml file and tried it out but it didn't work. [NTG-context] Exporting figures
Hello again, I have generated some ConTeXt documents with figures using MetaPost. The figures have labels which use \sometxt{}. Everything works beautifully! Now I have an unenlightened customer (he does not use ConTeXt) who wants to import my figures into his documents. He can accept eps or pdf files or any of the common graphics formats (png, gif, even svg I think). I have tried to generate the figures as standalone files in two ways: 1) I compiled the metapost to a PS file using "texexec --mptex file.mp". Unfortunately, the resulting figure does not have any labels, presumably because it isn't accessing TeX to generate them? 2) Inserted \starttext ... \stoptext around the metapost code and used ConTeXt to generate a PDF document. This is great except that each figure covers a full page. Is there any way of sharing my figures with the unenlightened masses? Thanks, Richard Converteam UK Ltd. [NTG-context] Page number updates

If I change the line: \setupbackgrounds[header][leftmargin][setups=layer,background=pagenumber] to \setupbackgrounds[page][setups=layer,background=pagenumber] the page numbering works, so I can get what I want by adjusting the offsets of the layer. Scite is okay, and hitting F7 to build a document is handy. It's missing a few features, though, which would make it great e.g. a user-configurable toolbar, so that we could add toolbar icons for ConTeXt commands (I'm always forgetting the order of options and a button which inserted a \placefigure command with reminders would be fantastic). [NTG-context] Available fonts and using them
Hello all, I have read many of the documents from the Wiki on using fonts, but I am still not sure of one or two, probably obvious, things: 1) I'm being asked to use Arial font (not my choice!) and I see from searching the context tree that there are .afm files, .tfm files and .map files with 'arial' in the name. Does this mean I can use Arial out of the box? If so, how? I've tried putting \setupbodyfont[arial,10pt] in my environment file, but it does nothing. I've tried various other things as well, copied but only half understood, from the other documents, but none of them work either! I could follow the guide on installing a new font, but if it's already available then I'd rather not! 2) How do I find out what fonts are available "out of the box" and how do I invoke them? Thanks, Richard. P.S. I'm using mkii -- one day I'll get around to setting up mkiv, but not today! Converteam UK Ltd. Registration Number: 5571739 and Converteam Ltd. As an eternal optimist, I often refer to texshow-web in the hope that I will find a function to help me, or a quick description of one that I already know. In most cases I end up reverting to searching the manuals and source code. I like the idea of texshow-web and I sometimes add notes to entries if I find our something interesting. I would be quite happy to add lots more, but I have some questions and suggestions for improvements which I think would help. 1) Is there a way of adding a function to the list? or can it be updated to include all the functions from the many macro packages included with the context distribution. For example, in recent discussion group threads I have found out about the \digits command and the \filename and \hyphenatedfilename commands, none of which is in texshow-web. I would have been happy to add notes on them if I could. 2) If I'm adding notes to a command, is it possible to add a URL link to a particular page in one of the manuals? This would great for looking up a command and going straight to the relevant entry in the relevant manual. [NTG-context] Type-setting filenames
Hello, Can anyone suggest a good way of type-setting filenames in ConTeXt? They are usually long with few spaces and so often overhang the right-hand margin and even fall off the edge of the page. They also often include backslashes and underscores which I have to manually change - very tedious. Is there, for example, a command which handles some or all of my problems? [NTG-context] Module documentation
Hello all, I have been using Context for a while now and have learnt a lot from the manuals and wiki. I now want to start to use features that are not documented. On the wiki (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Official_ConTeXt_Documentation#ConTeXt_Sources) I found the following command for producing a pdf output for a module: texmfstart texexec --module kpse:core-tab.tex which seems ideal for learning more. When I run the above command line it creates a .ted file but then complains: "I can't find the format file 'cont-en.fmt'!" On Luigi Scarso's page (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/User:Luigi.scarso/modules.pdf) he suggests the following: texexec --module --pdf core-tab.tex but this returns no output at all, and no pdf. I am working on Windows. I installed (this week) from the context/install/mswincontext.zip on the Pragma site and normally build from the Scite editor. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. [NTG-context] Publication layouts
Hello All, I am using the bib module to generate references. The manual tells me that the publication layouts are defined in the bibl-xxx files. I've got several of these (bibl-ams.tex, bibl-apa.tex, bibl-num.tex etc) so how do I tell which one is being used? (They all look the same to me!)
