Hello all,

I just had a look the the Gentium fonts and I like them. Did anybody
start to make them available in Context? And does anybody know if there
will be a math font set available?

Kind regards

What makes you say that? I heard that Victor Gaultney will release a
new version soonish, and that it will have bold and bold italic. And
the "status" part of the Gentium website looks like they are actively
developing the font.

[NTG-context] usage of module pstricks?

2005-12-21 Thread Wolfgang Zillig

Hello,

can anybody give me a minimal example how to use the module m-pstric.tex?

I tried following minimal example:

\usemodule[pstric]

\starttext
\startPSTRICKS
  \pspicture(0,0)(10,10)
\dorecurse{10}{\psline(0,0)(\recurselevel,10)}
\dorecurse{10}{\psline(0,0)(10,\recurselevel)}
  \endpspicture
\stopPSTRICKS

\stoptext

But this results into a gray shaded box with the following content:
"name:dummy, file: texweb-texapp.eps, state: unknown"

you can go to http://articles.contextgarden.net and search through

Re: [NTG-context] Story of a newbie looking for a table

2005-12-16 Thread Wolfgang Zillig

Hello,

what you can do is: get a local copy of all manuals and then there is a
small program available called docsearcher (is written in java, so it
should run on all platforms)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/docsearcher/ I don't use it on the
manuals, because after some time you know which one could contain a
solution for your problem. But it is nice when you have a lot of
literature in pdf format.

It is also also a nice solution to use googles advanced search options,
where you can limit the search on a specified location.

With iPages, the ''fabulous, marvelous, amazing, simple" word

fixed width colored cells and so on.
Unfortunately, once I saved the document, iPages could no longer open
it anymore... :-(
I then spent a pair of pair of hours (minus half an hour) to try to
repair things... with no success.

With ConTeXt, I spent a pair of pair of hours (minus half an hour)
trying to design my table, and less than half an hour to fill it.

Now the work is complete. :-)

But I am not really satisfied, I feel frustrated because I have the
impression that it took me too much time.
It appears that neither texshow nor garden did help me. So I digged
into standard Google, and it pointed me to the context mailing list
archive, finally pointing me to the name of the right manual at pragma
ADE. Fortunately, this up-to-date manual was online .

Once, my work was complete, I understood that the Google search on
context garden wiki was limited to context garden...
I then found that some information I was missing about tables was on
the context garden tabulate page...:-/
But I have the impression that the manuals do contain much more than
available on contextgarden.

So, is it possible to have the Google search engine at context garden
also look into the manuals?

Moreover, how do you formulate a request in standard google? Adding
the "ConTeXt" key word does not lead to accurate results.

 comment = {genauere Analyse des Papers nötig!},
 owner = {zillig},
pdf = {literatur-holz\moisture buffering capacity of heavy timber

I have to check if it's possible to add extra braces to capital letters

your editor inserts a special sequence which (in a unicode

Re: [NTG-context] xml, context and hyphenation

2005-11-07 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello Taco,

when I try to compile your example file:

\language[de]
\useencoding[utf]
\hyphenation{Voll-stän-dig-keit}
\starttext
\showhyphens{Vollständigkeit}
\stoptext

Then I get no output! The logfile is at the end of the message! It
complains about that the coding utf is unknown!

You are right, selecting the right encoding is not always easy. I'm
quite sure that my xml input is utf but I'm not always sure what scite
is doing whatever I select. Perhaps I should change the text editor.

Here the log file:

You can put the \hyphenation command in your cont-sys.tex

You have to switch to utf-8 encoding as well, I think.

FYI, ConTeXt simply seems to miss the first hyphen,
I get the result of \hyphenation{Vollstän-dig-keit} from
\showhyphens (you may want to increase the tolerance when
working with xml input files).

i'd go fo rnative xml + content mathml (most control over layout)

it's not that hard to map xml onto context and you can always apply
xslt transformations to get other variants; for nice looking output,
forget about xml-fo; it's not meant for that

Is it possible to use mechanisms like bibtex when going that way?

Re: [NTG-context] German ß

2005-10-17 Thread Wolfgang Zillig

Hello,

I tried following things:
1.\enableregime[win]
äöü is working; ß is shown as SS
2. \enableregime \[il1]
  öäü and ß comes wrong
3. \enableregime[win]
\definecharacter ssharp 255
äöü is working; ß is shown as SS
   \ssharp results in ß
4. \enableregime[il1]
\definecharacter ssharp 255
äöü are wrong; ß is shown as ß

5. and completely strage: using \ss in the text changes from there on to
the font LMSans12! And there ß and öäü is working.

I really have to state that I don't understand the font font handling
completely but I think some things changed here in the last time.

I hope that anybody can give me a hint how to use fonts (especially that
ones from the latex-hfbright package)

Out of curiosity: what happens if you add the following line somewhere
after the definition of encoding and after font switching?

   \definecharacter ssharp 25

Also try to test a word like "bi\ssharp chen" (this should prevent
problems with input regime).

If this works, it's necessary to add support for OT1 (if this is not
already default), see
http://source.contextgarden.net/enco-ec.tex for example.

Ec is not supposed to work properly (in LaTeX it's known under the
name T1), texnansi also has other character positions, but ssharp
could work there.

possible to set it for all subsequent unnamed (default)

Re: [NTG-context] Fonts in Metapost

2005-07-03 Thread Wolfgang Zillig

Hello all,

the last suggestion I made was wrong, to change the font I need (somehow
strange) the following code:

\loadmapfile[mymap.map]
\usetypescriptfile[type-cmbr]
\usetypescript[Cmbr]

\startMPenvironment[global]
\input type-cmbr
\usetypescript[Cmbr]
\switchtobodyfont[Cmbr,12pt]
\stopMPenvironment

I don't know what I did, that in my typescriptfile that I have
explicitely to include it.

Re: [NTG-context] Fonts in Metapost

2005-07-02 Thread Wolfgang Zillig

Hello all,

finaly I solved my problem: I had my metapost graphic in an external
file and used it with:

\startuseMPgraphic{test}
\input mp.mp ;
\stopuseMPgraphic

\useMPgraphic{test}

or

\startbuffer[test1]
\input mp.mp
\stopbuffer

\processMPbuffer[test1,graphic]

in both cases I get the graphic but the font switching does not work.
When I copy the content of my graphic file into "\startuseMPgraphic
\stopuseMPgraphic" or "\startbuffer \stopbuffer" I works. Is there an
explanation for this behaviour? I thought \input would be equal to
typing it directly.

What is the best way to handle multiple graphics when I want to use the
font switching mechanismn? Any advice?

Thanks alot
Wolfgang

I assume you are working under windows.

You go in start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> advanced ->
environmental variables (at least under xp)

You have to chance the variable "path" and add there the path to pstoedit

Hope that helps

Hello,
There are more ways to typset formulas in context. One is to use mathml,
but there is a module called newmat (\usemodule[newmat]) and this is the
way I use math in context. And there is it possible to use \text{}.
International characters should not be a problem then.

Hope that helps you!

Wolfgang

Here a short example how to use math with this module(you can use inline
math with $ some math $ ):

\startformula
q = \delta \frac{{\partial p}}{{\partial x}} = \delta (\phi )p_{vsat}
(\theta )\frac{{\partial \phi }}{{\partial x}} = \left[ {\frac{{\delta
_a }}{{\mu (\theta )}}p_{vsat} (\theta )} \right]\frac{{\partial \phi
}}{{\partial x}} = k\frac{{\partial \phi }}{{\partial x}}

\stopformula

\startlegend
\leg k \\ water vapor permeability \\ \\
\leg K \\ water vapor permance \\ \\
\leg S \\ surface \\ \\
\leg L \\ length \\ \\
\stoplegend

Aligning is also possible:

\startformula\eqalign{
t_{L,early} & = t_{L,late} = t_{L,ray} \cr
& = 6\ \mu m \cr
}\stopformula

Hello Wolfgang,

it's considered, that the project-file contains only setup-commands and a
list of products, but no commands, that generate directly output.

When you compile a product, the referenced project-file gets included in
some manner, so every product of the project will inherit the same setups.
Compiling the project-file is seldom useful. It will generate all products
in one file.

Consider just, that one product is one document, and a component is a kind
of "sub-document" for example a chapter. And the project-file is just a
list of documents, that should inherit some common setups.

I hope, this helps.
Cheers, Peter

[NTG-context] Imposition of A7,landscape on A4

2005-03-20 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello,
I want to print 8 pages of A7, landscape doublesided on A4. I always get the
pages connected on the shorter side of the page, but that is wrong. Has anyone
an idea how to solve this?

Thanks

Re: [NTG-context] imposition for a pdf file

2005-03-16 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
I think something link
 texexec --pdfarra --noduplex --paper=A5A4 --print=2SIDE yourdocument.pdf
should work. There is more information about in the the manual for texexec
www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/mtexexec.pdf

As usually, not a direct answer...
Play with these script

(you can create my-imp.tex by a script and choosing the appropriate number
for page=, also use \setuplayout etc..)
Also look for \setuparranging.

[NTG-context] m-letter.tex

2004-12-13 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello,
is someone using the letter module as mentioned in xcorresp.pdf (the
correspondence manual)?

There is written that the layout is defined in a file "m-letter.tex". I can´t
find this file and the examples from the manual are not working too.

Is there an example file for the use of this module?

Re: [NTG-context] fonts installation

2004-12-08 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello Robert,
I think that is the same problem I had
add
\usetypescript [adobekb][\defaultencoding]
\definetypeface[hudson][rm][serif][palatino][default]
\setupbodyfont[hudson,12pt,rm]
to your code.
Tomething like this will work too:
\usetypescript [adobekb][\defaultencoding]
\usetypescript[palatino][\defaultencoding]
\setupbodyfont[palatino,12pt]
This was the final solution from Patrick last day.

Attached the test file and the log file.
Thanks again!

with miktex there is a path C:\texmf\fonts\tfm\urw with some subfolders, but all
of them are empty. For example Helvetica is located
C:\texmf\fonts\tfm\adobe\helvetic and all files starting with "p".

I think that was the problem with selecting fonts on my system.

So I still not for sure where the error comes from
- false font names
- missing font names
What do you think?

I guess I don't. gwTeX doesn't seem to throw it in there. (I reinstalled
prompted by your earlier Q.)
So where (e.g., on CTAN) would you point this person to?

Good question, I just looked at CTAN. The sources are in
fonts/psfonts/psnfss-source, but have to be generated by a makefile,
wich needs some modification on my linux box.
Would it make sense to create the metrics and put the online?

Hello Patrick,
I have installed the complete miktex distribution. I think it should be
includedd there.

[NTG-context] using fonts

2004-12-06 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello,
I think I´mgetting confused with all of the font selection within context.
First: I have a miktex environment on on W2K.
1.
to change single fonts:
\definetypeface [palatino] [rm] [serif] [palatino] [default] [encoding=ec]
\switchtotypeface[palatino][12pt,rm]
results in an error that the font is not found (font: uplr8t)
on my system following files are available:
uplr8a.afm
uplr8v.tfm
uplr8v.pfb
uplr8a.pfb
uplr8v.htf
but I think tfm is needed
2.
I thought that the default encoding should be texnansi
I tried that but context is looking for texnansi-uhvr8a (here for helvet). The
font uhvr8a is on my system.

3.
should be there some font-switching macros on the system called font-xxx.tex
(example font-lbr.tex)? These are missing on my system.
I think these are needed forthings like:
\setupbodyfont[lbr, sans, 12pt]

4.
within miktex there are "lucida" font files from yandy (lbr.tfm
). Is that a free version of lucida-font?
(is that for math? [there is anotherfile called math-lbt.tex in \context\base])
Summary:
do I need to get the missing fonts/files and why are they not provided with
miktex.
Perhaps a change of the distribution is to prefer? (which one)
Is there a manual which explains how to change fonts (in a way that a normal
user who is new to context can understand it)?

Thanks a lot

[NTG-context] scaling of figures in figures database

2004-12-06 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hello,
I was trying out the figure database as shown in the manual. But I have a
problem with large pictures (eg from digital cameras). Is there a way to scale
them down in the database view?

Re: [NTG-context] scite does not build output

2004-12-03 Thread Wolfgang Zillig
Hi,
it is working now!
But I still don´t understand why this within the command line is working:
texmfstart texexec.pl --pdf c:\temp\cont\test.tex
and the (original) call from scite is not.
Thanks

for the moment, replace (in one of the properties files) "texmfstart
texexec.pl" by just "texexec"; it may work; maybe kpsewhich in miktex
does not yet support 'texmfscripts'

this message is ok, unless you have a local cont-sys.tex

[NTG-context] scite does not build output

Hi,

error
message:

If I start this in comand promt I get a long message (see at the end of this
mail). The script is complaining about "unknown file type: texmfscripts" but an
output is generated.
Why is it not working from scite?
Some more information on my system:
