169.254 is the Automatic Private IP addressing (APIPA)new in Win2k. A server or pc will take that addressing if it doesnt have a static ip address or cant get one from dhcp. Port 138 is NetBios stuff I believe (LanManger updates, stuff like that) - but others please correct me if I'm incorrect

It would be normal for PDC's and BDC's to broadcast to port 138. Sounds like you have a pc out there with APIPA, because it cant get a DHCP address, and its requesting NetBios update to the PDC/BDC. You need to find out the Windows 2000 PC that has the APIPA configuration, and change it to a

THe 169.254.0.0/16 address range was set aside for something called APIPA (or something like that). In a nutshell, its local DHCP in case the machine can't find a network. You've got a machine that doesn't think its on the network. Roger --
