Mohonk Lake/Ashokan Reservoir (NYML) Christmas Bird Count

Thirty-six observers in eleven field parties recorded 11,598 individuals
of 71 species, plus an additional four count week (cw) species, during
our 60th annual survey of this Ulster County CBC circle centered at the

The BLACK GUILLEMOT was apparently not seen for much of the morning
today, so I was glad to see Carl Starace's post that it was present at
1pm. Yesterday while I was there I ran into a person who lives nearby
who estimated that the bird had been present in Sebonac Inlet
There are now 2 Tundra Swans on the Pittsburg Avenue Pond at Massapequa
Preserve as of 12:30 PM Christmas Day. Several Mutes were around providing a
nice all around comparison, and showing how easily this species can be
overlooked.
Massapequa Lake was mostly frozen on the south side, but
We took a short walk this afternoon at Belmont Lake State Park (BLSP) to walk
off our Christmas Eve dinner. When we arrived there were perhaps twenty-four
Canada Geese on partially frozen Belmont Lake. Shortly after we started scoping
at about 1:30PM geese started flying in from the northwest.
Hello Everyone, Sally Swain,Frank De Vito and I had the Guillemot about 1
pm today at the Sebonic Inlet.It was in its favorite spot about 70 yards inside
Bullhead Bay.We also had a ,"Grey Ghost", Harrier fly by us.The large raft of
Common Eiders continues well inside Shinnecock Bay.A few
"Jay & Bill" should read "Jay & Rich" as in "Kuhlman & Sautkulis". Cheers, Bob
