I'd be interested in the north shore, especially from Northport to
Setauket. Birds over LI Sound may have turned around and landed, and thus
could be concentrated on the north shore. Just a guess.

Brendan Fogarty reports a SANDWICH TERN in front of the skimmer colony at
Nickerson Beach. He says there is a lot of vehicle traffic so it may not
stick, but as of a minute ago is still on the beach and is obviously in the
area.

At least one LAPLAND LONGSPUR on top of the capped landfill this morning.
Plus about half a dozen Snow Buntings, a smattering of larks and pipits,
and two Vesper Sparrows. A number of flyover Purple Finches were my first

At about 1 PM this afternoon, there was a NORTHERN SHRIKE perched on top of a
telephone pole toward the end of Lazy Point in Napeague.

65 COMMON REDPOLLS this afternoon at Read Sanctuary. A flock of 40 in a birch
stand, and a flock of 25 that came in off the sound and flew right overhead.

RAZORBILLS could be seen flying with all the scoters. A
group of about a dozen AMERICAN PIPITS were hanging around the point too.

American Pipit 4 -- On the beach.
Northern Harrier 1 -- Flying SW not 3 feet off the water, fighting the wind.
Also of note, I counted 346 Canada Geese flying southwest in several groups,
probably being pushed south due to the recent snowfall. A Horned Grebe
around too.

Just wanted to clarify I did not first find the bird--credit should go to
Dominic Sherony. Poor but identifiable pictures were obtained and to my
knowledge it hasn't been relocated yet.

NASHVILLE and PALM WARBLERS, and over 600 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS (still coming
through when I left at 930) and 6 PURPLE FINCHES in morning flight. Also a
Common Loon flyover early on and my FOS Hermit Thrush.
