Meadow County Park. Being that close to one of my favorite butterfly spots,
I opted to do that for a bit. That resulted in a White M Hairstreak, my
first in Suffolk county in 16 years - a nice capper to the day.

Just saw 2 Black-necked Stilts flying south of the nature center at Jones Beach
West End. Could have come from the ponds to the west. Landed due south of the
SW corner of the lot. Way out. Not sure what's there, but maybe an inaccessible

south). Tide was low, which is an important consideration at this site (use
Willet's or King's Point table). And that goes for fiddler crabs too, which

As for hawks, it was noteworthy for being better than your average Golden
Eagle day for east of the Hudson. Quaker Ridge (Greenwich) recorded 5 and
Chestnut Ridge (Butler Sanctuary, Westchester) tallied 3.

So far.today a Lark at Coast Guard hedgerow and a Clay - colored at West End 2
middle exit. Loads of birds around, but a lot of select few species.

as some do find them of interest, I came across
a Common Sootywing (butterfly) at Alley Marsh. This is my first October
record (and maybe a first overall in New York?). They usually die off after
the first few days of September. This one actually looked freshly emerged.
