I once again checked out the West End of Jones Beach this morning from about
8-10. *Brant *were seen along with a flock of Canada Geese between the
bathrooms and the gazebo. *Merlins* were in good numbers and I spotted one
*Cooper's Hawk*. A fair number of *Golden-crowned kinglets* were feeding

mosquitoes mostly gone. The spit near the Coast Guard station held over 100
Oyster Catchers and lots of DC Cormorants. Throughout the median were
Northern Flickers, Crows, Northern Mockingbirds, Yellow-rumped Warblers and

Summer Tanager near the gazebo (east of parking lot).

Yesterday I visited the West End of Jones Beach between 6:30 and 7. I saw a
good number of black skimmers on the sand bar near the coast guard station
and a few merlins flying around. The highlight was a buff-breasted
sandpiper in the median of the exit at the ocean parking lot.

I was at West End 2 yesterday around 1:00PM and saw (1) Baird's
Sandpiper and (1) Buff-Breasted sandpiper on the edge of the swale
(closest to the ocean).
The day before, on Wednesday there was one tern, a Caspian Tern among a

see what shorebirds we could turn up. It was approaching high tide, and

A total of 7 Harlequin Ducks (including 3 drakes) were present at the West End
2 jetty this afternoon (4/15). Not much else of note in the dunes except for a
singing Swamp Sparrow and a Barn Swallow among the many Trees.

We went today (early afternoon) to Jones Bech and we saw the Longspur (about
1-2PM) with the group of Horned Larks in the area next to the parking to the
right before the main entrance to the Cost Guard Station. There were several
birders and a bird photographer.

was a bit of a hinderance.
The Lapland Longspur, associating rather loosely with Horned Larks on the lawn
adjacent to the Coast Guard Station, continues. I checked the shell field
adjacent to the Theodore Rooseve
No Longspur, but a good collection of sparrow like birds from 8-10:30

As reported Monday by Brendan Fogarty, the clam kill persists.
Combined with the dune lagoons created by Bill made for excellent birding.
The highlights were two Lesser Black-backed on the beach. One 1st year, one
older.
Four Whimbrel. One in a lagoon before the base of the jetty and three flybys
Birds on the spit at the Coast Guard Station this morning around the
high tide included 2 royal terns, 4 black terns, a long-billed
dowitcher, and 9 western willets.

After the weekend activities, the island in front of the marina was free of
boaters, sunbathers and campers. There were 11 species of shorebirds including
100 American Oystercatchers (I counted 104); 50+Black-bellied Plover; 20 Red
