Eric Miller (aka the boy who cried wolf) called late today to say that he
re-found the Alley Pond Park Virginia's Warbler (aka needle in a haystack).
I quickly went to join him and Jeff Ritter, only to get the predictable
result. This is a tough bird. Today's sighting was a few hundred yards away.

A Western Kingbird flew over the intersection of 34th and 3rd in Murray Hill,
Manhattan today at 1:30pm today. The bird was moving North up 3rd avenue and
perched on a few rooftops. I managed to get one horrible picture of the bird
which you can see here:

This coming TUESDAY (6 Nov 2012) The Linnaean Society of New York will present
another two-part program at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in
New York City.
6:00 pm –
At Oldfield Point, Setauket (Suffolk Co.), from 7:10 to 8:10 this morning,
there was a much sparser passage of American Robins (350) than yesterday,
accompanied by ca. 30 Cedar Waxwings and one Evening Grosbeak that perched
for several minutes.

were still seeing the avian after-effects
Birding at Kissena park has been very nice
Yesterday afternoon I got
Ovenbird
B-T blue
Field Sparrow
Lots of Fox Sparrows
White-crowned sparrows
and very late Brown thrasher east of the Velodrome and west of the Bridle path
near 164th
51 species in total
This morning I found a Baltimore
It turned out to be a record-setting weekend for Golden
Eagles in the northeast US. Franklin Mt. did OK with 6 on Saturday
and 21 yesterday, but the big action was along the
Shawangunk-Kittatinny-Blue Ridge through NY, NJ and PA.
Numerous daily records were set for this species, including
