11/14/14, Friday Pat Pollock Pied-billed Grebe close to west pumphouse north end of Reservoir 1 American Coot on west/south sides no other surprises; mostly No. Shovelers, Ruddies, Can. Geese, Mallards, and usual gulls as far as I could tell. Unfortunately, little work is being done on the now torn up north stretch of the Reservoir - no workers around today, and the 2 I I saw yesterday were having an early lunch - never saw anyone working there after they dug up the track and erected fences so we can't bird along that stretch. I called the 79th St. Yard, l/w, no one got back to me. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

Just 3 days until 2013 Xmas Bird Count (8am South Pumphouse Reservoir) 12/12/13 Thursday Ringed-Neck Duck continues at Reservoir, SW section around 11-12, still tucked in Mary Kelly was circling the Reservoir again to try to pick up Common Merganser she did see yesterday. In weather like this, underwater is warmer than above water, so most likely she missed it trying to avoid slipping on the ice while scanning and exercising. She doesn't have a computer to make a report but if anyone is out tomorrow, keep the above in mind. About 8 Hooded Mergansers About 10 American Coots Small # of Ruddies Over 100-125 Northern Shovelers 1 (m) Bufflehead Canada Geese - a good flock a few Blackbirds inside park @ 90 St/CPW last I heard of the Northern Pintail it was seen @ Meer Veryl saw a Hermit Thrush along narrow northwest strip of Pinetum -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

[nysbirds-l] Central Park Bird Report - Common Merganser (f) Reservoir FOS
11/28/13 & 11/29/13, Thanksgiving & Friday Pat Pollock There is a (f) Common Merganser Fos, on NW side of Reservoir, found by me yesterdqy @ about 3-3:30 p m and picked up again this morning in same area feeding close to the retaining wall much of the time. Light @ 8:30 am poor for details. The Red-throated Merganser (f) and Common Merganser are quite similar. We get both species usually for short and infrequent visits. The light yesterday in afternoon was stunning. This was my 1st opportunity to use a computer. Inaddition to Com M erganser, Ring-n ecked Duck was present this morning & Thursday. Today I counted 10 Hooded Mergansers, mostly on eastside, 5 American Coots, 4 Buffleheads and 4 Pied-billed Grebes. At the Pool the Northern Pintail was not present today but I had seen it a few days ago @ the Pool. There were 5 Buffleheads, and 5 or more Wood Ducks which were frequently hidden along the north shore low-lying bushes. @ the Feeders yesterday a beautiful (m) Baltimore Oriole appeared, Carolina Wren, White-breasted Nuthatch, Fox Sparrow. A Red-tailed Hawk flew in, perched, flew across to another perch and gave us quite a show. On Thursday I noted 2 American Black Ducks on the Reservoir. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
