I spent most of the morning at Tallman Mountain State Park. I heard the
Prothonotary but did not see it.
There was a nice amount of migrant activity. The Prothonotary was reported
yesterday here: 41.033860, -73.916048. I drove up to the top of the

We took a run at SMSP about noon this morning after the heavy morning rains and
the birds were singing everywhere. We saw and/or heard nine species of warblers
including Worm-eating (Breeds), Blue-winged (B), Black-throated Blue, Am.
Redstart (B), Prairie (B), Common Yellowthroat (B), Ovenbird
A quick visit to Jones Beach West End today yielded the best diversity of
shorebirds I've seen yet this spring:
120 Black-bellied Plovers (max yesterday 90 at Cupsogue)
1 Semipalmated Plover (max yesterday 4 at Cupsogue)
70 Red Knots--most in full breeding plumage
5 Ruddy Turnstones (max
I forgot to note that the White-winged Dove was NOT present at Jones Beach

Greenbelt trail just north of Veteran's Highway, across from Connetquot
River State Park. Coordinates are: 40.794673, -73.163547. I'd started my
hike from Lakeland County Park (40.804345, -73.156237) and there hadn't

The south side of Veteran's Highway has a very accommodating shoulder,
and, in deference to the Long Island Greenbelt Trail, there's a
crosswalk marked. Even so, follow John's advice; traffic is fast, so

John Wittenberg called to say he and Gaile Newman just had a Kentucky
Warbler at Tanner's Spring (7:45pm). Gaile initially found the bird
west of Tanner's, and it subsequently came in for a drink. Hopefully
it'll still be there tomorrow.

After Ken Feustel's post I wandered down to Sunken Meadow hoping to pick up
some first-of-the-season birds. I first headed to Field 4 where there were
the 3 Solitary Sandpipers. As soon as I got out of the car I could here the
sounds of warblers and spring migrants in the forest. After

Seeing 12 species turns out to be the most species I've seen during any trip
to Bryant Park. The previous record was 10 & both were Fall records.
The OVENBIRDS and GRAY CATBIRDS were hard to miss. A
