NYbirders,
There has been a cooperative juvenile Thayer's Gull in Ithaca since Saturday
(7 Nov); presumably the same bird was seen on Friday almost 20 miles north
of Ithaca on Cayuga Lake. The bird has been seen at Stewart Park (where it
roosts), the docks at Treman Marine State Park, and the
NYSbirders,
Tim Lenz, Jay McGowan, Chris Wiley, and I birded in Monroe and Seneca
Counties today. We started at the Summer Tanager stakeout on Colby St. in
Spencerport (Monroe Co.), where the bird cooperated early and often. The
tanager appears to be an adult female, with an apparently (fresh)
NYSbirders,
A Northern Hawk Owl previously reported in Champlain, Clinton County,
NY was still in the area yesterday afternoon (14 Feb). Chris Wiley,
Alberto Lopez, Carolyn Sedgwick, and I saw the bird perched behind the
house at 494
Prospect St. in Champlain. Two Northern Shrikes and two Ruffed
NYSbirders,
Matt Medler and Jay McGowan just called to report the adult Ivory Gull
in Rouses Point, NY at 4:15 pm. The bird is being seen on the ice
edge from the end of Stony Point Rd. which, according to Google Maps,
is here: 44.966309,-73.358785
They haven't tried for the Northern Hawk Owl or
NYSbirders,
Along with at least 8 other happy Ithacans and many other birders, I
watched the adult Ivory Gull in Rouses Point (Clinton County) for much
of Saturday. For several hours in the middle of the day, the gull
bathed and preened at considerable distance out on the lake ice. In
the late
NYSbirders,
Chuck Gibson reported a Western Grebe at Chimney Bluffs State Park
(Wayne Co.) on 11 March using eBird (report visible on the eBird
Google Gadget). Tim Lenz and Chris Wiley relocated it this morning,
and many people were able to see it throughout the day (though others
struck out).
NYSbirders,
Chris Wood, Marshall Iliff, and I birded north to south on the Niagara
River in New York yesterday with the following highlights:
1 Cackling Goose - flyover with Canadas coming into NY from Ontario at
Lewiston docks
1 Black-headed Gull - at the Lewiston docks, an adult about halfway
NYS-birders,
Jay McGowan and Andrew Van Norstrand report good seawatching from
Cupsogue (Suffolk Co.) this morning. The highlight so far has been an
alternate adult Pacific Loon that flew east with 4 Commons 15 minutes
ago. I'm sure a full report will follow later.
