RE: [obc] TT results on OBC links

2002-08-19 Thread Sheila

I agree completely. Her TT stats are a marvel and should be properly
linked.
I also have noticed that when Celia was in charge of the OBC web's
classy ads, material was put up in a timely manner. Now it can be weeks
before anything new shows up. I don't understand why the OBC took
something away from a competent volunteer only to make it worse.

Earlier this season I had pointed out, to the OBC
Board, the lack of TT results on the OBC website. I
was told, at that time, that it was being developed
and we should all be more patient. Since Celia had
(and has!) continued to independently produce
 excellent
quality result pages and since it appeared that
development of the official TT pages had hardly
started, I suggested that, at least until the work
was complete, a link be made from the OBC web to
Celia's result pages. My suggestion was ignored, and
at one point there were no updates to the official TT
result pages for more than a month of our competetive
 season.

We have now had almost a whole season of TT's,
and most members of the club have mostly viewed the
results from Celia's link that she sends out each
week. The reality is that Celia is supporting the
club member requirements, and is certainly recognized
within the membership for her superb work and
dedication, though it seems unappreciated by the
 OBC board.

If the OBC board is unwilling to appreciate the TT
results we did have (which I feel were second to none
of any bicycle club sites), then I would recommend
that the TT keeper position be an elected position.
You know where my vote will go.

Advantages of Celia's site: colour coded for easy
viewing and picking out relative placements; links
from each line detail to access other grouping
information (by category, name, or speed); timeliness
of data onto the site; weather details; proper seed
sheets; BAR calculations; ABC results; complete and
accurate results (i.e. all categories (I notice the
PeeWee is missing from August 8 official results - too
bad, as I think it's great to encourage the young
cyclists); complete volunteer lists (once again, we
can't survive without volunteers, and they should
always be recognized)); there may be more issues, but
I sure haven't done an in depth search).

I am a user of this information, appreciate having it,
and knowing that we have had the quality support from
Celia, certainly would not expect that we need to take
a step backwards as technological capabilities
 generally takes steps forward.

Re: [obc] TT results on OBC links

2002-08-19 Thread John and Mary Ajersch

Michael,

I agree with your recommendation of a Time Trial Keeper (TTK) position. My
vote would also go for Celia.

Celia's continuous hard work and dedication has been exemplary. She has
been patient, dependable, and good natured. Results are posted the same
evening. She not only compiles the results, but also summarizes each event
in her e-mail. She personalizes the results by highlighting fastest times
and PBs, adds humour and explanations; e.g., her running 2k across the
finish with her bike (broken chain), Sally's TT in flip flops.

I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes; however, if I were on the
executive, I would treat her with kid gloves, for fear of losing such a
treasured gem.

Thanks Celia for all your hard work,

Mary Ajersch
Volunteer SS CKO

2002-08-19 Thread Hermann Christa Kerckhoff

Yes, Mary, What does go on behind the scenes ?

Does anyone know about a NEW Handicap TT point system ?

I hear of radical changes in the calculations. Why is it kept a secret ?

I think I'm entitled to know, it says in the latest Spokesperson: Who can
unseat Mary Ajersch and Hermann Kerckhoff ? We are both training hard for
this event.

[obc] Hermann

2002-08-19 Thread Avery Burdett

. behind the scenes and . kept a secret?

Hermann, what have you been smoking?

The Board (comprised of 14 members) discusses items of importance. Notes
from Board meetings are published in the newsletter. Board meetings are
open to members. We meet first Monday of each month if you are
interested.

The Board asked the Vice-President to review one request for changes to
the TT handicapping method. Bruce reviewed the rtequest and we discussed
it at last Monday's Board meeting. Bruce will announce the 2002
handicapping method shortly. And no, there is no *radical* change, just
some fine tuning to make it more competitive.

Now about that performance enhancing stuff you are inhaling .

Re: [obc] Hermann

2002-08-19 Thread Hermann Christa Kerckhoff

Hi Avery,

I'm not offended since I have never smoked-not even in my youth !

You are confirming that its been kept a secret - but leaked. So is it true
the NEW formular is: 5 sec.'s per year over 40 ?

It was a wide - open discussion among the Big Boys yesterday on the Lanark
Ride, no need for the Vice President to make an official news release, or ?
The competition is only 3 weeks away, we train hard, make plans to attend,
why the delay ? I'm for AHEAD OF THE SCENE...

Re: [obc] Hermann

2002-08-19 Thread mcinnisc

And are we going to put in a gender-handicap to make the event even more
competitive. (We can still award trophies for the best within each gender).

Probably a lot more women would be interested in competing if this was done.
Maybe we'd even outnumber the men as we did at the Almonte 40k TT yesterday!
(That was worth getting up for (5 hours earlier than my Sunday norm...)! - as
was the cycle route home - which naturally couldn't entirely be called
gravel-Les. Anyway, I didn't see any white stripes painted anywhere to give
support to one of the tenets of those wimpy, wussy, whiny bike lane
haters... :-) ).

Let's maximize the good, fun, healthy competition in this club!
