Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Frequency of Open-ils-general digest

2018-03-23 Thread Holly Brennan
I can personally confirm that digests arrive daily, at least. On Monday this
week I received THREE (v. 117 is.8-10) in the span of 12 hours. And combined,
the three digests only contained 4 messages.

I don’t trust them and I don’t read them…. Obviously it’s one of those
subscriptions I should unsubscribe to but I don’t. I guess I always hoped
eventually they would make sense and be helpful.

Chris, I suggest doing what Jason (and I) do: set up mail filters so you have
one folder just for incoming Evergreen general. And if at all possible, set up
your email to group emails by conversation. That helps A LOT since I’m in
Alaska and miss at least half a day of conversation time, meaning my box is
full of new topics before I wake up. It makes interesting conversations easy to
follow, and uninteresting ones (to me) easy to delete in one click.

I was wondering why when Digest mode was off I wouldn't see any. I would love a
daily report but monthly seems like missing out on a lot of relevant info such
as with the upcoming conference. Also, they are filtered but sometimes when
busy I don't think to check it for a while and everything is so pieced out it
is hard to follow a conversation sometimes

Oh - yeah - that makes sense. Thanks!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Frequency of Open-ils-general digest

2018-03-23 Thread Jason Stephenson
Hi, again.

On a related note: I use mail filters to organize my incoming email into
various folders before I read it. Most email clients have this feature,
and if yours doesn't, drop it and get one that does.

This way, I can see what email requires my immediate attention and what
can wait.

I get hundreds of emails a day from the various servers, lists, ticket
systems, and other people.

Whether you get the digest of this list or not, looking into using the
filter feature of you mail software is time well spent.

I believe Chris's complaint is that the digests have become more
frequent.

They have become more frequent because there has been an uptick in
traffic to the list overall.

The number of digests sent per day can be reduced if the digest size
threshold setting is adjusted upward. (NOTE: I do not run this
list, so
that is not in my power.)

The number of digests can be limited to 1 per day by unsetting the
size
threshold. However, the resulting digests may be large enough to cause
delivery issues with some mail servers.

Same. I had assumed that it was being sent out daily (my experience on
other listservs which is a bad assumption to make) but have no preference
since I won't use it.

Hi Chris (and anyone else with this question),

If you go to your account on the mailing list manager:

http://libmail.georgialibraries.org/mailman/listinfo/open-ils-general

You can select an option to receive a daily digest instead of individual
mails. Just login with the password you selected when you signed up.

Hi, we recently started using Evergreen in December and in anticipation I
signed up for these newsletters and they contain some great helpful
information! I love the idea of having a community of ideas rather than a
proprietary vendor that you can't get much from. That being said, these
Digests have completely taken over my inbox as sometimes I get 10-12 a day (11
on March 21) as well as all the IT tickets and other things in the inbox
and have had to move these digests to another folder which gets forgotten
sometimes (out of sight out of mind). Is there any way to get a condensed
version of a daily rundown? This would allow me to place them back in the
forefront of thought again.
