I don't know if it was a coincidence or direct response, but I see that
impish-proposed now has version 8u302-b08-0ubuntu2 [1]. Though it has
been packaged, it hasn't yet migrated to the release archive, looks like
it is currently blocked by some issues with newer glibc

The bug report in general was marked as fixed released since the issue
is resolved in Ubuntu 16.10 and later (ref comment #3). However there is
still an open task to also fix it in 16.04 (Xenial), see under Affects

I guess nobody requested it for an older release before now, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure for details.
Though, I do wonder whether what you are experiencing is the exact same
issue. According to bug 1560405 and

Ok, just checking.
Thanks for providing the requested information. I briefly tested this by
installing ca-certificates-java on a 15.10 vm, but I was unable to
reproduce the issue.

Thanks, I wasn't able to trigger this on Debian. I've attached a bug

Has this also been reported upstream in Debian?
No, I don't think so. I've tried here with a minimal Sid VM, but I have
not been able to reproduce this issue nor bug 1406483 which I stumbled
across recently. So while I would normally forward bugs to Debian, I am
hesitant since I'm not able to
Public bug reported:
1. Steps to reproduce:
Depending on which packages you select for installation, it is possible the
postinstall and trigger for ca-certificates-java run before Java has been
installed. This may be possible to trigger with more combinations, but I've
found
$ sudo apt install
I briefly tried to see if I could reproduce this on Debian too, but on
my Debian testing system I found Java was installed by default and thus
set up in the right way out of the box. :/
I also found some variations in bug 983302 and bug 1396760 which ended
up in the same situation as this issue.
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.
I stumbled across this issue after I had reported a similar one. (Bug
1406483 where I triggered it by installing maven and openjdk-8-jdk)
I was able to reproduce this issue when installing openjdk-8-jre-

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue, but just want to mention
that similar ones have been reported where it can be triggered by
installing openjdk-8-jre-headless 8 (bug 1396760), or maven toghether
with openjdk-8-jdk (bug 1406483).
Looks like it is possible to end up in a situation where

I see that 7u55 has been packaged in Debian
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/o/openjdk-7.html), so I would assume it's
not too far off.
