If you change all of your IP addresses after you've deployed OpenStack,

Basically, a 10TB cluster, using the above calcs, saves a client
~$3500/year compared to using AWS. And that's a pretty small cluster. Scale
that out significantly and you end up with some pretty impressive cost
savings.

Generally speaking that's true when you have full control over how you
deploy applications as a consumer. As a provider however, cloud resiliency
is king and it's generally frowned upon to associate instances directly to
the underlying physical hardware for any reason. It's good when instances
can
have trouble interacting with Azure, so be forewarned. Save
it for later/last.

Hola OpenStack peeps,
I heard recently that Fuel doesn't support hard drives larger than 500GB
unless they are re-formatted via RAIDx. Can someone on the Mirantis team
confirm or debunk this for me?

You're saying you had to manually create the
/etc/neutron/plugins/ml2/ml2_conf.ini file? Pretty sure it's created
whenever Neutron is installed so I'd make sure Neutron installed correctly.

That's the primary reason I've discovered why folks move away; I wasn't
sure cloudstack was or wasn't part of the overall picture so I figured just
outright mention the purple elephant in the room. ; )
Are your VM's able to see the disk when NOT using Cinder+Ceph?

As long as you manage to keep your networks separate(d) using VLANs or
something, NIC use is kind of irrelevant as far as requirements go.

Hey everyone, is it true the only backend DB's supported by Ceilometer
(+Aodh et al) is PostgreSQL, MySQL, HBase and MongoDB?
Specifically, I don't see Cassandra listed but there was a spec back in

Hey everyone!
Does Neutron support mpls/bgp presently? I'm looking for use cases/methods
where it's done outside Calico or Contrail.
Anyone have a link to a doc or steps where it's been done successfully?

With 4 physical cpu cores, you'll have 8 with HT so you likely don't need
anything managing overcommitting. But you also have memory contention in
your design. OpenStack facilitates resource limits to prevent the
contention from happening but does not get into managing vm priorities. The
This is a scheduler thing. Kvm/Linux has it's own scheduler built in for
any process that needs to share CPU cycles aside from the filter scheduler
used by OpenStack. My understanding is that any optimizations assigned to
resource consumption will not be handled by OpenStack but with manual
on
the VM itself.
Another question, are incoming connections timing out, is the security
group allowing connections from everyone or a subset? i ask because I
haven't seen the easy questions asked up front.

I don't mean to be inflammatory. First off.
That said, I was emailed a link to review the drafted TC vision. When going
through it I did not see a vision but rather a 'yay for our to-date
accomplishments' statement. What are the actual plans for the future as
envisioned by the TC?

Fyi, the idea of controllers are a bit of a misnomer. You should have
redundant services; they don't necessarily need to be on the same box.
Since your asking as a new user. Have fun!

Another FYI, OpenStack services don't have to be running to access a
virtual machine. Period. Amy other condition that prevents this is a
serious design flaw.

Be careful, a compute node showing as down may not actually be down at all
but the agent not being able to report back or frm the conductor not being
able to update the db. I was about to ask if the VM's were offline or not.
Glad you got it figured out!

I am also highly interested. A very large adoption inhibitor has been the
ability to control cloud consumption with charge-back and/or cost center
billing support. Would love to talk about this.

resistance. Also, this ties quite nicely into Software Defined Datacenter
but appropriateness for the Openstack suite itself is another matter...
Has this been given much thought at this stage of the game? I'd be more

I really think we have much bigger fish to fry than to start policing
community shorthand where nearly every meeting and communication is typed.
