First the easy one, PET is what water bottles are made from.
Second is you are in a good location for wet pads to work. Here in Florida they
don't do much to cool in summer since the humidity is already in the 80% or
higher range on many a summer day. In areas with low humidity they work by

The trick to longer life with these type of pads is to completly dry them out
between cycles, this means having the fans run for at least 15 minutes after
the pump shuts off and making sure that the water in the trough drains

Routine dosing with small amounts of chlorine is the easiest method. My
city tapwater seems to have enough on its own. But a tablespoon or two
once a week would also do it. Of course Tom's method is needed if they
are really bad to begin with.

or Distance (Neem may also work). Keep a close eye
out for new hatches and treat with a good insecticide, preferably one with

Wishing we could grow Masdevallias and Pluerothallids doesn't mean we
actually try. What we do well with is the Vanda alliance and The
Cattleya alliance. We have also had some luck with a few other types,
our criteria for trying is the warm to intermediate classification by
the supplier, which
