Hello Jim,
Have you
thought of testing some applications of caffeine on the medium of some of your
plants. (Incidentally, coffee
grounds alone, as a repellent around the perimeter of your growing area or your
greenhouse, may only have a marginal effect.) But tests using 1% and 2%

Mornin' OGDers,
I've been growing and buying orchids for over 45 years. That dates back to
before the era of mericlones. (I still have the first catalog that Orchids
Orlando sent out in the mid-60s offering the first mericlones.) We have been
spoiled here is west central Florida for many y
I had put in an inquiry to the WOC offices on behalf of a number of the members
of my local orchid society here in Florida. We wanted to know whether we could
make a group order for the Proceedings and what quantity would afford us a
price break. The lady I spoke to advised me that she would p

Just for the record, here in Tampa, Florida we have two orchid societies, both

Hello All,
Anyone here know what has happened to the specialty group, Encyclia Enthusiasts?
I emailed then recently and have received no response.
Have they disbanded or gone inactive?

Hi Nina,
If you can find a copy of W.G.G. Moir's little (trade paper) book, "Creating
Oncidiinae Intergenerics", wherein some of the combinations he tried using
Trichopilia turned out he discusses, it should be worth the read. The ISBN is

Gentle OGDers,
I visited the GNYOS home-page today and there is the announcement about the
cancellation of their show:

I hope this successfully clears up any misinformation in this matter.

Gentle OGDers,
I am surprised that no one mentioned the recent reportage on the effect
caffeine (1 or 2%) exerts on slugs and snails. Essentially harmless to
higher-order animals, it is dearly to slugs and snails, causing them to
immediately begin

What is it with you people?!
This list is about orchids predominately.
Take your off-topic posts elsewhere. There's nothing stopping
you from discussing this with one another privately, but it's like
you just have a need to grandstand, to be seen, and then the next

Gentle OGDers,
Recently there was a question about retrieving threads from the OGD archives. Here is a slightly different question in a similar vein:
I receive OGD by email in Digest form. Occasionally a digest goes missing or I accidentally delete one before I can save it. The membership ha
Thanx to those of you who sent me the missing issue.
It is much appreciated.
I have saved it and all is well with the [orchid] world here in Tampa.

If anyone still has this issue of the Digest and

Hello OGDers,
Recently I acquired a plant of N. wallisii and would like to hear from any
OGDers who have been growing (and blooming) this species successfully. It
seems
notably recalcitrant in cultivation so hearing from anyone having success
with it would be useful.
I have a greenhouse wit
Hello again OGDers,
Thanx to all who responded to my questions about Sarcochilus palidus, both on
and off list.
I now have the answers that I needed about this species.
I may decide to stick it in the 'fridge overnight if it continues to be
reluctant to bloom. [Just kidding...]
Cheers!

Hello OGDers,
Can anyone on the list -perhaps Nina R.- advise whether an interest group for
those fond of species of the Sub-tribe Stanhopeinae (Gongoriinae) ever came
together? There was some talk of one forming a few years ago, but since then I
have heard nothing more.

Paul Mitchel
Hello OGDers,
Last fall I was given a plant of Sarcochilus pallidus, I suspect because it
is not as showy as some other species of that genus. I know nothing about it
when I received ti but it grew well enough and had two spikes with immature
buds which were on it when I received the plant.

Gentle OGDers,
A second round of thanks certainly is due to all the other OGD members who

THANK YOU!!!
Kenneth, pondeeza, and Viateur,
I now have those missing digests!
Much Appreciated,
