that you value them too. Offer them free admission to the out of town
musicians dance. The out of town musicians play "different" music sets,
not necessarily "better".

As a musician who's been asked about rescheduling, it's a very reasonable
thing to do as long as you communicate well.
Agreed with Kimbi that you don't want to make the local band think you're
saying "we think they're better than you" -- the important thing is that
the local band is very likely
Totally agree. Life happens good/bad and sometimes organizers (and performers
also!) need/want to swap things. Being transparent often leads to good results.
