Hi,
How can I override the osgViewer camera so that it starts with the Z axis
pointing out from the screen and the Y axis pointing up (the almost global
standard), rather than Y in and Z up?

I would suggest that you make them yourself using any reasonable graphics
program such a GIMP, Photoshop, Corel Draw or if your require 3d something
like Creator
That's what I do for my compass roses
