SciPy is not a hard dependency, but is also installed with qgis-full (which is

anyone uses the java mapscript bindings.
And that's all the java support there is. I guess you have to also adopt java
if you want to add gvsig - preferable in a way that other stuff can also make
of it (eg. to bring back gdal-java).

I should upgrade GDAL 2.0 just now. But that could probably make use of both

given it's large size (1.2GB installed) I suggest splitting it into a
boost-libs containing the stuff needed at runtime (ie. DLLs; 24M installed) and
boost-devel containing the compile time files (ie. headers and libraries).

Not really. I can open the gtopo30 map from the qgis_sample_data set just
fine.

a 64bit build - there isn't a pressing need
to have 64bit builds if 32bit binaries also work.
But 64bit binaries are preferable on 64bit machines and it contains QGIS and
all of it's dependencies, which already are a major part of osgeo4w 32bit
(GDAL, GEOS, GRASS, proj.4...).
Jürgen

. The 64bit build contains
less packages than the 32bit version. It doesn't have apache and phpmapscript
for instance.
See http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/versions_diff-x86-x86_64.html for a
comparison.
So you probably want to use OSGeo4W 32bit.

Oh, that doesn't work on 32bit either? I though it was only missing 64bit
