You can always temporarily switch the airplane mode off. It can be very quick.
Aside of saving the battery, the mind may deserve a vacation away from
incoming calls.
One can usually manage at the provider the sms notification service about
missed calls.

Thanks Bart. Putting the phone into aeroplane mode is also supposed to be
very helpful for battery life, but you obviously then can't make calls etc.
