I would just like to say we try to have the babies in recovery with the mum, unfortunately it does depend on staffing (the recovery nurses are not midwives), but we do know it is optimal and really try for it to happen. often a lactation consultant goes down to recovery with mum and baby.

I have found a lot of my women in birthsuite have had posterior babies lately! I was thinking it does have something to do with our sedentary lifestyle as well. Most of them turn toward second stage though, but still, it's a longer, harder slog to get there with a posterior baby... Jo Sue

There are many variations on whether a baby stays with mum in WA 1 small maternity unit, the baby is held by mum whilst still on the table, then sometimes goeswith her in her arms or dads to recovery then to her room, whilst all her obs are done etc. Baby can be wieghed near mum also
