Dear Jo -
Lots of support and information for women who book
into Nambour-Selangor. We have a group of professionals who are comfortable
working with women who are planning vaginal birth after caesarean, and also
classes (I hate that word) - information is better for those women looking for
Hi Jessica - I am a midwife who
accompanied a woman through her grieving following an unexpected stillbirth two
years ago, and she has since had another child at the unit where I work. I
approached her last week about your posting to this list, and she and her
husband would be happy to
Dear Macha - I have been a midwife since 1984 and I
have never found it boring. I think there are so many wonderful people working
in this profession of ours, as clinicians, mothers, lecturers, academics,
leaders, not to mention the students, who are part of our future. The work

Dear Debbie - I was saddened to read your posting
but also so pleased you turned your experience into a positive learning one for
yourself and others, as you shared with this list. Some years ago I had to do an

Title: Parliament House Rally - A BIG Thank you
Hi Justine -a note to say a big thankyou to
all of you who made it to the rally and represented midwives in the way you did.
We seem far away up here but I have been following with interest (and some with
dejection at times,I have to admit).
Dear Deb - I LOVE hearing stories like this
onethere are many such stories and we all need to hear them. I happen to
know several obs who really do care about and for women - I am glad you found
this one or this one found you (sometimes I am not sure how it happens...). I
found one like
Hi Tina - it IS dangerous. Aside from what the
woman is feeling at the time (I shudder!), it has the potential to
causephysical trauma and introduce infection. This pactice went out with

Dear Wendy - I began an assignment with this in the
opening paragraph.
Fuchs (1983 in Nichols and Humenick, p1, 1988), tells us that
of all life choices, none are more important to society, none has more far

teachers believed that children should be (forcibly if necessary) right-handed.
When I was 5 (1962), I remember the teacher tying my left hand behind my back so
I could not use it. I had a very assertive mother who, when I told her what my
Dear Jo -
Your posting struck a few chords with me - I am
passionate about women living their births, making decisions and feeling good
about those decisions. They are the ones who take that birth with them for the
rest of their lives - we don't. At times we might recall a woman whose

women with their infoprmed chioces is what it is
Also waited all night for one at work when the father would not let the ob
touch the cord because his wife declined an oxytocic! THAT gave rise to some
interesting stories about us

This sounds so like comments made toseveral
mothers-to-be I know by a well known ob who is needless to say involved in IVF.
He said (and I quote the women who told me) " "I
put those babies there. They are mine until I put them in your arms and I will
say when and howthey come out".
I agree 100% Tina - what a worry. We have resisted the tatoos, and at this
point only use footprints as a memory for mothers and fathers of stillborn
infants.
