using nitrous oxide for midwives is in the March issue of MIDIRS. I
wrote this article using extensive research supplied by a midwife
colleague

Hi all:
It was quite interesting to me when I was visiting in Sydney in January, to
witness the use of N2O2, since we don't use it in the US. Some midwives here
(homebirth) have heard of midwives in Great Britain and Canada using it
(nitrous) at home and are quite intrigued by that. I have read

Meptid is a brand name for Meptazinol. It is similar to pethidine and has similar side effects, but has half-life of 3.4 hours for babies, compared with 22.7 hours for pethidine. Research indicates that it has a less depressive effect on newborns, and fewer side effects on Mothers. I have
Nitrous oxide is used in Canada, perhaps not as widely as it used to be
because people pretty well go straight for the epidural now . However it is
still here for use. Women are usually told it has no effect on the
baby.sigh.

Hello Tina and Deb,
There are a number of studies that investigate the links between exposure
of the baby to drugs during birth and eventual addiction in later life.

Hi
No, I haven't any information on it's use, but there is research
"evidence" that too much use of N202 by the mother is associated with

Does anyone know of any recent literature on the
use of nitrous oxide or entonx with women in labour? I am currently
reviewing the clinical standard on this in our hospital.
Thankyou in advance
Kathy
