doing- being a woman, helping another woman. Any chance of being a support
person for her? I admire your efforts tohelp this frightened woman

I consider myself an educated woman. Two degrees and post graduate studies would certainly indicate such however it is only since the birth of my first child that I came to realise how difficult it is for a medical lay person to obtain information that truely allows them to make an informed
The other book I would suggest you get your cousin to read is "A Guide to Effective Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth" by Murray Enkin, Marc Keirse, Mary Renfrew and James Neilson.
It is a very good and balanced book based written by a group of British obstetricians who basically recommend or
Saw that, felt disgusted, but of course the baby would have been sicker if
she had had a vaginal birth , wouldn't it??mm
Hi. No, I realise that when I first wrote about
her, I did sound like an explorer trying to conquer a mountain...but it is not
what I meant. I already offered to be her support person, but she didnt
really say anything, so I took that as an "I dont think so, I dont know, let me

Debby,
You rightly point out one of the dilemnas of
childbirth education - how much do we teach and what perspective do we teach
from? How on earth to get across the myriad of information so women can make
truly informed choices?
If we tried to teach even a tenth of all the
possible
Try convincing KEMH to that point of view! MM
Hiya. I've recently gone back to work as a laboratory technition at a
secondary college. Attending an inservice, my colleagues want to 'engage'
the science students more, so 1 way to do this is to do tours of local
factories etc. Meiji is a factory in our town, and I dont know if any of you
Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has heard of any research
linking the
use of oxytocin in labour
and the effect on breastfeeding/milk
supply?
Cheers,

For those of you who have not already heard the news - a breakthrough in the

Hi Macha
I think you do have to state your views on visiting
a formula factory - Quote the WHo code - or perhaps you can make it into
education about the hazards of infant formula - let them smell the gunk being
made/ word them up well on quetions to ask about ingredients/processingand
Hi everyone -take a look at the health page in the
culture section of todays age -I am raging -a very tenuous link has been made
between the success of controlled crying and prevention of postnatal depression
the article also states "amazingly sleep deprivation has not been linked to PND
"-
I believe it is absolutely vital that birthing
education is given in schools as it is during these years that most of your
values and beliefs are instilled.
Recently I was talking to one of our GP/Obs who is
Dutch. She was discussing the system in Holland (which I so envy) where

Lois,
I think the site is fantastic. The slide show
made me a little weepy, in a happy kind of way. Certainly inspires me to
get pregnant and have a baby under your care..that is, if I weren't 500 km
away!Tracy
Hello independent midwives,
I am after some equipment and am wondering if anyone ceasing practise has
the following available for purchase. I am in the market for a bag and
mask with tubing, or possibly a nifty little oxygen bottle and set up. I
look forward to hearing from anyone who can help
Hi
I'm one of a number of volunteer committee members from the Launceston Birth
Centre. The Launceston Birth Centre was established about 20 years ago to
provide women with birthing choices outside of the hospital (home birth and
birth centre births). The service is independent (non government)
