The virtual is masked, not the real package. Try to uninstall
virtual/xft. This will fail, telling you which packages depend on it.
Reinstall these packages so that you can uninstall virtual/xft
afterwards.

apps/portage and got this:

back in May, I reported problems when using paludis together with btrfs as
storage for Gentoo related stuff (see [1]). Some files were installed with
wrong permissions. Just wanted to inform people that these problems are gone
now (btrfs 0.16 + paludis 0.28.x).
