Well, I've long thought the winamp library was rather useless, aside from
for searching for streams in particular genres. I only ever used it for
managing and editing bookmarks, and, since I learned how to edit winamp.bm
directly, I don't even need it for that, any longer.
but, I thought, your
Steve,
Put all your music into a single folder, or subfolders of a single folder.
Open Winamp and press S, to toggle on the Shuffle feature. Then, pres
shift-L, and select the folder containing all your music. Press enter on it,
and away you go!

1. Start Winamp, and open the playlist editor, with alt-e. Press ctrl-tab,
until the playlist editor has focus.
2. Press ctrl-n, to open a fresh (empty) playlist.
3. Close or minimize the winamp application.
4. Browse, in Windows Explorer, to the first track you want to add to the
playlist.
Listening to good jazz or classical music through a surround sound system
always makes me feel as though I'm in a movie theatre, not a concert hall,
club, or open air performance. That's why I won't use one, for my home
listening.

Garry,
All of what you say is undoubtedly true. But that kind of listening is
hardly what, I think, Jerry meant by serious listening. Certainly, it's
not what I or any other audiophile means by serious listening.

This is exactly what I do, with the Griffin IMic, and the results I get are
why I continually tout the IMic, whenever this subject comes up on this

For pod catching, I use Juice, the renamed IPoddder. It's very accessible.
As and RSS client, I prefer FeedReader. It's quite accessible, and it works

Jim,
Highlight a file of a type you DON'T want played by Realplayer. Click on
Files, and on Open With. Select the player you DO want to play files of that

In the skype software, itself, have you selected the headset as your input
