The only wireless Headphone / Microphone combinations I've found so far
are blue tooth devices with one ear. It's OK for web chat, Skype and the

Hi Kurt,
Are your music cds commercial ones?
Or are they ones that have been burned otherwise?
If they are commercial ones (( store bought), than
you could use CDEX to retreive the albumn info, and then copy that
imformation to the clipboard and paste it into a txt file.
Where do you get ListMaker ?
Sounds interesting!

Dvd Data Disk

2005-04-17 Thread Debra Turner
Hi Listers,

My new computer has a Dvd burner and Drag and Drop cd+Dvd software which
works well with cdrw disks. The dvd disks are not recognized and I am
prompted to insert a disk into the drive. Can this software be used to
create a data dvd or do I need something more to properly format my dvd
disks? I am running Windows Xp pro.

After going through the scant users guide and help files, I still know very
little about the dvd disks.

All suggestions welcome.

Debra

Re: Revise understanding frequency question

2005-04-17 Thread jaywill
Hi, Rod,
Not sher where your boundaries of comprehension are concerning frequency. I
gather that you know the basic concept, that is, frequency as we normally
use the term indicates the number of cycles per second of, presumably, a
periodic occurrence, and the unit of frequency is the hertz which is one
cycle per second. You can have random patterns of vibrations that occur
within a narrow band of frequencies. For examble, the sh sound is no
periodic, but depending on the mouth cavity of the person saying it, the
sh sound may fall with a band from, say 2200 to 4000 hertz.
Having said that, you can develop your ears to determine at least
approximate frequencies by using your sound editor's tone generator as an
ear trainer and/or you can employ any musical instrument as a reference,
knowing that, for example, middle C is approximately 261 hertz and the a
above that is exactly 440 herts if in tune. I would say that most folks
who've been dabbling in this stuff for awhile have developed such concepts.
Now, as to eliminating frequencies in a vocal track, don't waist your time
unless you jsut wanna experiment to see what else disappears when you try to
x out a vocal.
Getting rid of AC hum is easy because it's a simple sound with usually, 2 or
three components: the 60 hz fundamental and two harmonics above, each
separated by 60 hz. Filtering those out will also delete any other
vibrations of that frequency that happen by, but due to the nature of the
music itself, you're not apt to notice those deletions.
Now for example, let's say that we wanted to keep Nelson Riddle's orchestral
palate but delete Frank Sinatra's vocalizing of the phrase, Allo the Way.
Well! you not only have the basic three notes of the melody to delete, but
also, all the variations caused by his vibrato and all the overtones of the
voice itself. This, in turn, is made more complicated by the fact that each
vowel has its own formant, a frequency band of higher intensity that tells
you what the vowel it. An o will emphasize those frequencies around 500 to
600 hz, and a long e will tweak the band around 3000 to 4000 hz. So,
without software that lets you see where all those things show up in the
spectrum and also lets you delete them, your sol. Hope this clears up some
stuff.

Guys, I am still fighting with my painful quest to understanding
frequency.
here is the best way I can ask my question.

How can I determine the frequencies I want to get rid of in a project if I
cannot know them by ear? And, cannot see the graphs? Strategies, tips.

Re: accessible mp3 player

2005-04-17 Thread Sarai D. Bucciarelli
Allison,
Yes, they exist. Try the Archos Studio 20 Recorder. Its very accessible, you
can also download an alternative firmwear called Rockbox, Rockbox has the
recorder speak the menus, files and folders, etc. The players work as well,
go to www.rockbox.org to find a list of the players that work w/ Rockbox. I
have the studio 20 and I like it. The IRIVER h140 is another good player
that is accessible and they're working on Rockbox for the player. If you
want a player under a hundred bucks, I hear the Muvo is a good player and it
plays books from Audible. There is a review on the player in the Janurary
issue of Access World.

Hi all!
I am looking for an accessible player with a good sized built-in hard drive.
Does such a thing exist yet? Thanks!

 Hi, Rod,
Not sher where your boundaries of comprehension are concerning frequency.
I
gather that you know the basic concept, that is, frequency as we normally
use the term indicates the number of cycles per second of, presumably, a
periodic occurrence, and the unit of frequency is the hertz which is one
cycle per second.
I would say that most folks
who've been dabbling in this stuff for awhile have developed such
concepts.
Now, as to eliminating frequencies in a vocal track, don't waist your time
unless you jsut wanna experiment to see what else disappears when you try
to
 x out a vocal.
Getting rid of AC hum is easy because it's a simple sound with usually, 2
or
three components: the 60 hz fundamental and two harmonics above, each
separated by 60 hz. Filtering those out will also delete any other
vibrations of that frequency that happen by, but due to the nature of the
music itself, you're not apt to notice those deletions.
Now for example, let's say that we wanted to keep Nelson Riddle's
orchestral
palate but delete Frank Sinatra's vocalizing of the phrase, Allo the
Way.
Well! you not only have the basic three notes of the melody to delete, but
also, all the variations caused by his vibrato and all the overtones of
the
voice itself. This, in turn, is made more complicated by the fact that
each
vowel has its own formant, a frequency band of higher intensity that
tells
you what the vowel it. An o will emphasize those frequencies around 500
to
600 hz, and a long e will tweak the band around 3000 to 4000 hz. So,
without software that lets you see where all those things show up in the
spectrum and also lets you delete them, your sol. Hope this clears up some
 stuff.

Subject: listmaker questions

Does anybody use listmaker and have they actually gotten it to make a
list? I want to catalog all my CDs and I just want to put them in the
drive and have a list made of all contents. Some are music, some are
otr, but I just want a list so I can find them later. Any suggestions
about listmaker or others? If so, please provide URL or where I can get
them. Thanks. Kurt
