Re: recording problem in sound forge

2005-04-28 Thread Kelly Pierce
Kevin,
Thanks, that did it! All I needed to do was uncheck the stereo mix checkbox
and everything is back to normal. for others with integrated sound cards
wanting to know the exact issue and steps I took:

when Replay Radio was installed, it essentially checked the checkbox
for either the stereo mix or the mono mix in the recording properties
dialogue. This has the effect of recording the entire speaker output when
making recordings using the line in input with other programs, such as the
Sound forge editing program.
to fix this, I went to the recording properties dialogue
   programs/accessories/entertainment/volume
and when I was in the volume control dialogue, I went to the menu and
selected properties. In this property sheet, I cursored down to recording
properties. the default is playback. I then tabbed to a list and selected
all items to display and then pressed the ok button. In the next property
sheet, I found that the stereo mix checkbox was checked. I had selected
stereo mix during installation of Replay radio. I suppose if someone chose
mono mix, that checkbox would have been checked instead. I made sure that
my line in checkbox was checked and unchecked all other boxes.
presto, it worked!!! the downside is likely that one may need to
tinker with the property sheet when switching between Replay radio and
other programs that record sound, like sound forge. however, the two
programs can easily co-exist on the same computer.
lesson of the story: when in the middle of a project, even one that might
last for weeks or months, don't install programs that preform a similar
function on your computer. these programs may change settings that the user
is unaware of and will then need to painstaikenly track down and finely
adjust to return to the previous settings that were working well. Lesson
lerned.

Re: file splitting with mp3 direct cut.

2005-04-28 Thread Dean masters
Maybbe you will get this reply since you didn't get the one I sent the other
day.

I have used the automatic splitting on two files. One wouldn't split since
it was a recording of a radio program and had no silent spaces in it. The
other one was also a radio recording but did have a few spaces in it. when I
went to save it, I did change the folder where to save the files but left
everything else alone since I didn't understand it either. Just let it do
its thing. I then had four files in the folder where I asked it to save
them.

I don't think you can tell it to split the files into certain time periods
unless you do it manually.

 Hello,

I posted the below message a couple of days ago and got no response, so am
trying again in hopes
that users of mp3 direct cut who know the answer will respond.

 The message is as follows:

Hello, I am using mp3 direct cut and attempting to split a one hour mono
file into 4 segments of
15 minutes each. I used the auto cue choice to mark the file. But when I
go to the file menu
and select save-split, I am puzzled by those cryptic instructions. I
understand selecting the
folder into which the segments are to be saved, and I also think I
understand use of the base
file name. However, reference is made to various characters of the
alphabet preceeded by a per
cent sign, and I do not understand the significance of these.

Also, please explain how to save all segments because whenever I attempt
to save the parts, only
one brief segment is saved. So what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Re: windows media streams and total recorder

2005-04-28 Thread Larry Higgins
What you are saying is that if you select what you here in the recording
properties dialog box, that TR will record everything that comes through
the soundcard, including your software speech. This is why the driver comes
in handy when ever it is convenient to use it, which may not include
recording a Windows Media live stream. Total recorder contains a setting
that will turn off all of your system sounds when recording through the
soundcard, but again, if you are using software speech, you will not be
able to use it while using the what you hear option if you are
particularly concerned about making a clean recording, which I'm sure you are.

BTW, what stream are you trying to record. Please send me the URL, and I'll
try to record it myself. I was just thinking. Will the software driver work
if you have digital rights management turned off in MediaPlayer? Maybe that
could be your problem.

Sound Forge 8 help needed with plugin installs:

2005-04-28 Thread Don Breda
Hi Listers.

I reasantly upgraded to Sound Forge v 8 from v5. I also have the noise
reduction plugin installed.
I finally got the noise reduction plugins to be recognized by SF8 but it wasn't
easy.

I have just installed a bunch of vst plugins as well and although I can see
them when I bring up the FX pulldown, I can't get them in to the favorites
folder so I can actually use them.

Can someone advise me as to what to do. I use window-eyes mostly but use jaws6
as well so I can use whatever screen reader your familiar with.

Thanks for any help in advance.

This is the first of at least a few more sound forge questions which I will
post in separate messages but lets start here for now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: windows media streams and total recorder

2005-04-28 Thread Kevin Cussick
Hi all,

I have been using Lookout and been very pleased with what it can do.

I also use Hal anyway to the point.

I notice if you are using total recorder and using the software driver
if You use sappy voices You can still use your screen reader and it
does not interthear with your recording.

How ever please note if your recording using the stereo mix you will
not be able to use total recorder and use your screen reader using a
sappy voice it will record but it's grate as I said if you are using
the software driver hth. I do it all the time and it's grate it means
you can still read e-mail and the like and still use total recorder.
