bit rate question, mono and stereo

2007-02-11 Thread stever2525
Hi, this is Steve. Please tell me if this is correct or not. If I am
recording a file to my PC, that's mono at 128 bit, yet I am recording it as
a stereo file, since stereo is 2 channels, aren't I recording 2 64 bit
results? Now, since this is mono, wouldn't I get the same quality, recording
at 64 bit, but as a single channel, mono file, saving half the space?
thank you

nedding some assistance from some audio files out hear

2007-02-11 Thread Wollner
Hi okay I know that my question isn't for pc audio but I am wondering if I
still can get some suggestions hear anyway. What I am trying to do it this.
I have a sony tape deck hooked up to my stereo and a mixer with my cd
players running to it and my turn table running to it as well. Now when I
would like to record something off of cd I would like tohave the best
sounding recording with out going over or being two quiet. Now I know that
sound a little far fetched because cd's are at different volumes and things
like that and it depends on how you set your record level onyour tape deck
and here is where my problem is. I have ben messing around with my tape
deck volume for days not trying to get it to where I would be happwith it.
Now since we all have different opinions what sounds good and how we like
things what would be the best setting to use for doing this. I mean my tape
deck level goes from 0 to ten and right now I have it on 6 so should I put
the deck on level 5 or four or just leave it at six and record stuff like
that? I have the mixer set where I want it and adjusted how I want it also.
I am totally blind and can't see the record levels meters on my tape deck so
that is out for me. So I would like to get the best level that I can for
most of the stuff that I am planning to record. I believe that I am using a
sony tape deck model c-we 475 be think that is how that model number is
written anyway. I am happy with the deck but I would just like to get this
record level straightened away and then I will be in business. So let see
what am I recording on to tapes from cd will a lot of rock music and some
power metal also. So that may help in any opinions that I get on this
recording that I would like to do. I am planning to record on my home
stereo to tape using this tape deck so if anyone out hear can understand all
of this and give me some ideas to try that would be a big help. And thanks
for any suggestions that may come my way on this on the list.

Splitting Shows with Replay AV (Chris)

2007-02-11 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
Hi Chris
Listen to the podcasts. Only kidding. Y'all do what ya want with
my podcasts.

In the splitting tab you need to check the box that says Split
Tracks Every and tab 1 more time to the edit box and insert 60
for the minutes. You don't need the JAWS cursor here. I do not
have to use it. I recorded a 3 hour show like this yesterday.

Been using this method for awhile. Do not forget to tab to the
OK button. If you need more help listen to the splitting podcast
I did.

Replay AV (Peter)

2007-02-11 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
You need to make sure Replay AV has completed all its
conversions it does for you. Before you turn off your PC make
sure you exit the Replay AV program. When you exit Replay AV
will warn you if you are still recording and will ask you if you
are sure you want to exit.

When you mimimize Replay AV to task bar sometimes you will catch
or see the Conversion icon in the task bar area. This means
Replay AV is still doing the conversion for you still.

Review the list box within Replay AV - see if any conversions
are still in progress. If not exit Replay AQV and then turn off
your PC.

media center question

2007-02-11 Thread Arnaud
Hello,

I am the proud owner of a Toshiba Qosmio laptop

this comes pre installed with windows media center edition.

I'd like to know if there are keyboard shortcuts for the media center
application itself,
also, I'd like to know how to use the media center specific remote

if you are aware of some text that describe the buttons of the remote,
or how to use it to watch DVD, listen to music, watch TV (Yes, I have
an intagrated TV tuner inside)
etc.

please let me know.

This media center app seems powerful especially with the remote.
I hope it's usable by blind people in some way because it looks quite
cool.

Petro,

If you save your sent messages, then go over the chronology that you have
created and you will see what I am talking about. You take one step
forward, you take one step back; you take one step forward, you take two
steps back, and so on and so on, does this make sense? If it doesn't, then
you are not even remembering what you put up on the list and that is what is
causing confusion! I am not making this up, to taunt you!

To answer. Did you not see #1. and #2 and #3 in that post? #1 is
one podcast. #2 is for Replay AV podcast. #3 is for the blog.

Best I can do here. I am telling the podcasts addresses a few

could it be the wording that Petro is using in his posts that is
causing all the confusion??
to me it's pretty darn simple. the first url he gave was for his
general technology podcast, the second address is for his podcast
relating to replay A/V, and his third address is for his blog itself.
now, if that's the case, then i hope this helps clear this up.
however, if people are confused by the information that Petro is
giving in the podcasts themselves or in his blog, then that's up to
him to take care of.

Yes, that is up to him to take care of. He posted a bunch of things, over
the past month or so and it needs to be figured out which portion of the
info to use; that's it in a nutshell! I guess one could go merely by the
current posting, but, what I am trying to say is that there is more info
before that and using the links is a bit difficult, anyway!

Audacity

2007-02-11 Thread Brandon Hicks
Hi all,
Does anyone use Audacity successfully? I've got 1.2.6 up here. I can't
figure out a way to listen to the file after I've put an effect on it,
or even to listen to it at all unless I export it, which seems pretty
inefficient.
The help isn't accessible with JFW 7, has anyone gotten anything from
it? I can arrow through the contents and the books, but F6 doesn't do
anything, and neither do the graphical buttons. I've never run into a
help system like that before.

Thanks

Re: Petros Podcasts Info continued

2007-02-11 Thread Mac Norins
Chris,

OK, I have figured this problem out! Back around January tenth, Petro
started posting some individual answers, to specific questions, that people
had, about Replay. Then, as things progressed, he advertised that he had
made some podcasts, regarding the Replay tool or tools. He did this, first,
by saying that he had one, then two podcasts, on the Replay thing. Then, he
said that he had a couple more podcasts, which he numbered, say, one through
four. Then, the progression continued. Suddenly, he had another post, in
which he said that a total of, I think, six podcasts were available. He
then mentioned the blog website and a lot of instructions for the feed
addresses to be used with the Juice receiver. Then, he mentioned that he
had a phone number, that one could call and get some more information, that
way, as well as making comments.

So, you see, the progression got fairly confusing, for me, at least! I do
not think I am off base in discussing this, because it did prompt me to
figure out how to organize what he has, thus far, contributed, to the list!
He should be commended for his efforts; I was just trying to keep things
organized, in my mind and that's what I was trying to say!!

I think that this explains my point of view, now don't you?

understand why some people could be shaking their heads a bit. my
mistake was that people were confused by just the one message he sent

To close this off, you probably did not know that I still have trouble
getting the Juice Receiver to work, on a regular basis, so, downloading MP3
files is still very valuable, to me! I don't want to get into that topic,
as it's a bear, for me! I have listened to Dean Martineau's great tutorial

I will get that ironed out, right after my next piano lesson (groan!)!!

RE: media center question

2007-02-11 Thread Rick Alfaro
Hi.

I don't recall all of the shortcuts but here is a list of what I know. If
you do a Google search for media center keyboard shortcuts, you will find a
list on the MicroSoft site somewhere.

Alt windows key enter: Open media center from anywhere in Windows.

From within the Media Center application...
Control g: go to Guide
Control t: Go to Live TV.
Control r: Start recording:
Control p: Pause TV
Control f: Skip forward
Control b: Skip backward
Number keys change channels
Volume 70: F10
Volume down: F9

There are moor of them, but I use the remote most of the time. I don't know
if your remote is the same as mine however.

On mine, there are 4 buttons located just above the number pad that will
take you directly to recorded material, program guide, live TV, etc.

The program guide is fairly accessible in that you can move around within it
and see what is on, and if you want, choose to record something.

Hope this helps somewhat.

please let me know.

This media center app seems powerful especially with the remote.
I hope it's usable by blind people in some way because it looks quite cool.

2007-02-11 Thread Jim Wohlgamuth
Hello there GROUP!
Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good speech friendly
program for listening to/viewing DVDs? I am certain there are but
never having used anything such as this I don't know of what might
work or not work. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. I am running Window-Eyes5.5 although I hope to upgrade to 6.0 shortly.

Actually, I can se why some folks could get confused. In the
beginning he was posting audio files about Replay, but they weren't
specifically podcasts because you could just download them manually,
and there was no way to put the addresses into a podcast program like
Juice. but he has since taken care of that so now he's got the 2
podcast feeds and the blog. the number he gave is simply a voicemail
number where you can leave comments. to my knowledge you can't get
any info from the number, that's just for comments. but yep, i can
understand why some people could be shaking their heads a bit. my
mistake was that people were confused by just the one message he sent
yesterday when it was all his posts causing the slight bit of
confusion. glad this is cleared up now though.

Chris,

OK, I have figured this problem out! Back around January tenth, Petro
started posting some individual answers, to specific questions, that
people
had, about Replay. Then, as things progressed, he advertised that he had
made some podcasts, regarding the Replay tool or tools. He did this,
first,
by saying that he had one, then two podcasts, on the Replay thing. Then,
he
said that he had a couple more podcasts, which he numbered, say, one
through
four. Then, the progression continued. Suddenly, he had another post, in
which he said that a total of, I think, six podcasts were available. He
then mentioned the blog website and a lot of instructions for the feed
addresses to be used with the Juice receiver. Then, he mentioned that he
had a phone number, that one could call and get some more information,
that
way, as well as making comments.

So, you see, the progression got fairly confusing, for me, at least! I do
not think I am off base in discussing this, because it did prompt me to
figure out how to organize what he has, thus far, contributed, to the
list!
He should be commended for his efforts; I was just trying to keep things
organized, in my mind and that's what I was trying to say!!

I think that this explains my point of view, now don't you?

could it be the wording that Petro is using in his posts that is
causing all the confusion??
to me it's pretty darn simple. the first url he gave was for his
general technology podcast, the second address is for his podcast
relating to replay A/V, and his third address is for his blog itself.
now, if that's the case, then i hope this helps clear this up.
however, if people are confused by the information that Petro is
giving in the podcasts themselves or in his blog, then that's up to
him to take care of.

you are not even remembering what you put up on the list and that is
 what
 is
causing confusion! I am not making this up, to taunt you!

To answer. Did you not see #1. and #2 and #3 in that post? #1 is
one podcast. #2 is for Replay AV podcast. #3 is for the blog.

Best I can do here. I am telling the podcasts addresses a few
times a week so everyone knows they are available. New members

 Hope all this makes sense.

 Thank you.

no more samples of songs

2007-02-11 Thread blsmass
Have you noticed that if you go to cd connection to buy a record
www.cdconnection.com
or you are a member of music now you can't listen to samples anymore?
They give you a file to download which you can't use or they want you to
open a file that windows can't open. I buy stuff from them and you can't
check out songs by listening to them anymore. It really makes me mad.
Any suggestions? Kurt
