A suggestion for a new feature of the Hope program that works with Pandora
Hi. Last night, after hearing someone making favorable comments on the Hope program, that gives you access to Pandora via a PC, I decided to buy it. I really like it. One thing I've done is to copy and paste artist and title information from the program into Amazon, and if it's a song I'd like to get I'd buy it. Here's where my suggestion comes into play. If I remember, on the iPhone you have the option to buy the song that Pandora is playing. This would be a really nice feature for Hope. As I said, it's possible to copy and paste what's in the edit fields into either iTunes or Amazon to get what you want. I just thought I'd share this thought with others on the list. I've sent this suggestion to the author, and if others think this would be a coolerific thing to have, then let the author know. I'm not telling you all to flood the author with requests, since I'm not in the advocacy business. I'm just one voice out there with a thought, and if others think this would be handy, just drop the author a note. Have fun, and don't work too hard. There Is HOPE For Pandora (Roger R. Cusson)
I found Reger'Roger's post on Pandora interesting, but I've never tried to listen Two questions? 1. Is this access to Pandora program in any way tied to a particular screen reader? 2. Is anyone outside the US accessing the site and all it's services? Thanks. Ray To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
RE: There Is HOPE For Pandora (Roger R. Cusson)
Hi Ray. I can't answer your question about using this software outside the U.S., but I can answer the one about Hope being screen reader dependent. I think it will work well with any screen reader. I use JAWS 12, but I don't think the program is screen reader dependent. It has hot keys to get to different functions. It's really nice to be able to have the program running and find out the name of a rare song that you've been looking for. For Example, I found a long version of a Blondie song that I purchased last night. Hope this is useful. Re: lost my windows sounds
Thanks so much Brad, that sounds like just what I need. I did try it but wasn't successful but will try again. Actually I'm not sure how to select the sounds I want, do I just press spacebar on any of them that I want to highlight them? It didn't say check when I did the spacebar. I hate to impose on your good nature, but could you just give it to me step by step so I would do it right? This old 88 year old brain doesn't work as good as it used to, but I think I may be missing a step along the way there. Thanks so much for your input and patience. When I did it it did not offer me any choices and I had to type in my custom name again. It'll ask you if you are sure you want to save it as that name, because one is already named that. Press yes and then when you close the Sounds and Audio window or Control Panel you ought hear the close program sound if it worked. This way you ought have the default Windows plus anything you customized while in there. When I was messign around, I lossed sound as well so made my own and its fine now. The original question was pruned from the thread below, so I'm not sure what the original question was, but I remember reading that it might be possible to use Pandora if you have a proxy gateway in the US. I seem to recall that I was going to respond to the earlier post stating it would only work in the US, but then I thought maybe they were asking if anyone had had any luck using a proxy gateway. RE: Accessable Hard Drive for Hi Fi
You may have a problem if the external drive goes into standbye mode as some of them do. The spin-up process, then the reading process may as has been mentioned, rely for smoothe audio results depend on some player buffering. You can probably set a reasonable size cache on the external drive as well. Others on this list will know better than I do about such things however. Good luck. I'm not sure if the access rate over a 1.1 USB connection would be so slow as to effect your ability to play audio off a drive attached to such a port. It would probably work, but your player may have to do a tiny bit of buffering. There's a few things you can do to see if you have more hard drive space out there. When you go into My computer, do you see any other drives listed besides the C drive? If so, they may be other partitions on your hard drive. You can also use Windows Disk Management to see how your hard drive is partitioned. Go to your desktop, arrow over to My Computer, and hit the shift+f10, right mouse button or applications key to bring up the context menu. Arrow down to Manage and hit enter. How much data are you talking about transferring? Are any other partitions besides C listed? there may be a recovery partition that you could steal, if you don't care about ever recovering the machine or if you already have recovery CD's burned. BTW, what OS is running on this machine? When you ask about additional memory, are you talking about RAM or hard drive space? How much RAM is there now? Prices on memory and hard drives only come down, so finding hardware for older systems can end up costing you enough to make it worth buying a real cheap low end system. Since it's a laptop, you'd have to replace the drive that's there, which would mean a lot of work reinstalling Windows onto the new hard drive, assuming you have a license and the install media for Windows. Depending on how much RAM you have and how much the laptop will support, you may be able to add more, but this probably won't buy you anything when it comes to storing media files on the hard drive. Something like Crucial.com at http://www.crucial.com/ can take you through the RAM upgrade process.
