RE: CD Ripping Software?
CD EX 1.70 Beta 2. A great free audio CD ripper. 2.4 MB. Direct url for download: http://www.whitestick.co.uk/progs/cdex170beta2.exe Very easy to use! No matter what screen reader you are using. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Larry Naessens Sent: 14 May 2009 16:45 To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: CD Ripping Software? Hi. There was a time when I would have chosen Easy CD DA Extractor for ripping Cds. But I'm not getting anywhere with version 11 much less version 12, and I haven't received a response when seeking advice from the program's developer. I think now that I would prefer to move on to another program. With that in mind, what would you recommend for a ripper that yields good results while getting along with a screen reader. I have Window-eyes and System Access on board. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. A question with a far shorter answer would be, what does the program *not* do? You can convert audio files from one format to another with about 20 or so formats built in. You can add new file formats as they are developed simply by placing the codec's DLL in a certain place and informing the program of its presence. You can configure each individual file format and save that configuration as a preset. File conversion can be initiated either from the program itself or through Windows Explorer on the right-click menu of any audio file, provided you told the program that this is a capability you want when you install it. You can rip CD's to any of the above mentioned file formats or presets. When ripping, you can use any of the free CD lookup databases such as FreeDB to automatically name and/or ID3-tag the resultant files. Tracks can be combined into one track, if that's desirable which, on some CD's with some music, it is. You can write CD's either in standard ISO 9660 data format or music CD format (I forget the specification name at the moment). I'm not positive, only because I don't do a lot of CD-writing, but you might even be able to write mixed-mode CD's (combos that play in your regular CD player but have additional data that can be read from a PC Windows Explorer window). I think I've covered the main points. Pretty good for thirty bucks, eh? Hi Brian, I don't understand why that item in the file menu is not there, I have just copied some files from my computer by simply going to my MP3 folder and copying some file to the clipboard, switch to the CD folder and pasted the files there and pulled down the file menu and there it was and hit the enter key and it worked like a dream. Also, when testing my sound via the Skype call testing service, I start speaking immediately after the tone and finish well within the time limit before the other tone indicating the end of the recording time; yet the playback of my message occurs after substantial delay, with bits chopped out, and it doesn't finish on time, instead running into the tone indicating the end of the recording. When I contacted Skype support staff, I was referred to relevant help topics on the site. They suggest to check that the latest drivers are installed on the PC. Apart from ringing the shop where I bought my PC, I was, in the meantime, looking at something else on the Internet and stumbled on a Google ad for a program called VersionTracker Pro, which apparently scans the computer's hardware and software and lets you know of the appropriate updates for drivers and applications. Does anyone have any experience with this program, and is it accessible with Jaws? Any help/insights would be greatly appreciated. RE: BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Radio stations face analogue axe
Hi TJ, I listen to BBC radio 2 and Radio 4 during the day and I have FM tuned to these stations all over the house. Unfortunately, with DAB whilst I can have the radios tuned to the same stations there are great delays and not the same continuous flow of entertainment. Also I understand that DAB is to be reduced to a bit rate of 112 and many stations are in mono. I think we should keep FM as it works and scrap DAB. But unless I'm missing something, not the first or last time this would happen, it is more limited than the standard laptop sound card. I can't use it to capture my voice and the software synthesizer simultaneously. I didn't look at the cd, and don't have it any more, so perhaps there are more options for a mixer there, but with the default installation I can't see how to do this. RE: soundforge 8
Bob, Keeping his creative for recording and playback of radio and/or music, means that he can use his speech to use sound forge and the speech then does not get recorded. However, The creative sound card is not in the list to choose from. So, how do you make soundforge use the card he wants? Ibby -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bob Nelson Sent: 15 November 2006 12:44 To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: Re: soundforge 8 I could be wrong but I don't think that is a good idea. If you go to the options menu and press enter on preferences, you will be presented with a multi tab dialog. The audio tab in that dialog is where one can change the playback and record devices. Unless there is some compelling reason to use anything other than the preferred audio device, the playback and record devices should be left as the Microsoft wave mapper which is, in effect, the preferred audio device as determined in the control panel of Windows. I have been using an external Audigy ZS2 for quite some time with the playback and record devices set to Microsoft wave mapper and Sound Forge work flawlessly. Note that when control r is used to bring up the record dialog, the record device is displayed. The setting is taken from the preferences settings. Again, unless there is some compelling reason to do so, it should be left as microsoft wave mapper. Unfortunately, if you decide you want to stop the CD ato play another one or simply to close the Winamp, JAWS reports: Error: 0x02ea4c04 refered memory 0x02ed1e9c memory could not be read. I have replaced the memory and tested Winamp and still the same error report. I have also played several CD's using Real player and Windows media palyer and no problems. This to me sounds like a problem with Winamp, can anye assist. Kindest Regards, Ibby Karbhari 226B Westbourne Park Road, London W11 1EP. RE: what are RAR files and how to play them
You need a utility such as Powerzip. Unzip downloads, create your own ZIP files and encrypt confidential documents with PowerZip. You can use PowerZip's 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption to create password-protected ZIP files to store confidential documents and files or send them through insecure channels, such as e-mail. It is integrated into the Windows Explorer right click menu. It also supports 12 archive formats including creating and unzipping ZIP, CAB, TAR, BZ2, GZ, ARJ and HA archives, and unzipping RAR, ACE, JAR, LZH and Z archives. You can automate routine compression tasks by recording PowerZip Macro Files. You can also create self-extracting archives that can be unzipped without a compression program. A blind person would never know which folder is which. But two is fine. You will have to get a sighted person to go over it with you and make some notes as to what the functions are and you will have to practice with it but you will find it neat to make little notes. Steve, Well done then, all you need is a splitter lead that would plug in to where your speakers are, and then the speakers would plug in to one arm of this lead and the headset earphone plug in to the other arm of the lead and then the Mic plug on the headset just needs to be plugged in to the computer. Paul If looking at the PC from the back, on my PC the Mic jack is the one next to the left of the speaker jack. Make sure you go to the control pannel and then to sounds and audio devices, then go to the audio tab, then tab to the round recording volume button and hit the enter key. Tab till you come to Analog Microphone and adjust the volume to as high as you want it and then make sure you tab to the select check box and press the space bar to check this box. Press ALT+P to take you to the properties and type X to exit this area. Tab to OK and you are done. Close the control pannell and you are ready to talk. Sound Forge Manual
Hi Folks, I just downloaded a Sound Forge manual from: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/Step3.asp?URLID=1836&SerialNum= Unfortunately, not only is it a PDF file, but it is fully protected both from selecting all and or saving as a text file. If anyone has it converted already feel free to email to me direct all 284 pages in text or word format. Sound Forge Stereo?
Hi folks, Using SF 4.5 and cannot find where to tell it record in stereo when recording off the net. Just recorded a play off BBC radio 4 which on headphones was playing in stereo, but when playing it back using sound forge it has recorded the play in mono. All help welcome! Yount Sent: 12 March 2005 21:08 To: Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: I-pod questions I have two questions about I-pods. Does an I-pod take CDs and compress them, or does it take them as they are. And, in that case, can you put MP3s on there. Also, what will I pay for a good size one and can it be used with an IBM? Thanks.
