I know how to use that method, but it only does one track at a time. The only limit on a thumb drive that works is the size of the thumb drive. Each book from the library is a different size. So if you add up the size of x number of books and that size is still less than your thumb drive, then all those you added up will fit. Can you select folders within iPod to play instead of going through a library? That's the feature I like best about rockbox. The Ipod Forth Generation nano uses voice tags whereas Rockbox uses TTS. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages, for instance you get the title, artist and so on of a particular song announced on your Ipod Forth Generation word by word - example: Dean Martin - Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes whereas this information is spelt out letter by letter. You also have more options over what kind of speech you want, this is set from the computer you're connecting the Ipod with whether that be a Mac or Windows system, with Rockbox I found it very difficult to find a good speech engine to my liking, I did find one in the end though others were just too fast for my liking. The only problem I've struck with the Ipod Forth Generation Nano is that some of its applications such as time/date alarm and the like are completely unusable but again, that's what you expect to happen if you're using voice tags, the menus all speak however. We're up to the Ipod Fifth generation now and that unit has Voiceover built-in to it so in other words, the Ipod Nano Fifth Generation has a Built-in Screen Reader so its completely customisable. I don't know even if you can buy an Ipod Nano Forth Generation now can you? I have one here and I wouldn't give it up for quits I can tell you, well not at least until I get my Iphone next week - if they haven't sold out in the meantime smile -' On 28/11/2009, at 4:50 AM, Jason Boston wrote: Has anyone had any experience with the talking menus in the 4th generation iPod nanos? Here's a summary of the accessibility features and functions found on the new Ipod Touch as taken from the Apple Web Site. Vision iPod touch includes a screen reader and other innovative accessibility features that make it easier to use for those with impaired vision. VoiceOver The same VoiceOver screen reader made popular on the Mac and the iPhone is now a standard feature on iPod touch (3rd generation). It's the world's first gesture-based screen reader, enabling you to enjoy the fun and simplicity of iPod touch even if you can't see the screen. What makes VoiceOver on iPod touch remarkable is that you control it using simple gestures that let you physically interact with items on the screen. It's easy to learn and fun to use. Instead of memorizing hundreds of keyboard commands or endlessly pressing tiny arrow keys to find what you're looking for, with VoiceOver you simply touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then gesture with a double-tap, drag, or flick. VoiceOver delivers an experience unlike any screen reader you've used before. Traditional screen readers describe individual elements on the screen, but struggle to communicate where each element is located or provide information about adjoining objects. This contextual information is very important but typically filtered out by other screen readers. For example, off-screen models used by traditional screen readers to represent applications and web pages intentionally strip away contextual information and describe web pages as a list or menu of items. But with VoiceOver on iPod touch, you'll experience something entirely new. Because VoiceOver works with the touchscreen, you interact directly with objects on the screen and can understand their location and context. So, when you touch the upper-left corner of the screen, you'll hear what's in the upper-left corner of a web page, and as you drag your finger around the screen, you'll learn what's nearby, providing an amazing new sense of context and relationships between the items you hear. For many, VoiceOver on iPod touch will provide, perhaps for the first time, a true sense of not only how things appear on the screen, but also descriptions of what they are. You'll hear descriptions of every item, including status information such as battery level, Wi-Fi signal levels, and time of day. iPod touch even lets you know when the display changes to landscape or portrait, and when the screen is locked or unlocked. The speaking rate is adjustable so you can set it to a speed that best suits your listening ability. VoiceOver uses distinctive sound effects to alert you when an application opens, when the screen is updated, when a message dialog appears, and more. And when VoiceOver is talking, the volume of background sounds and music is automatically lowered, ducking under the voice, so you can clearly hear what VoiceOver is telling you. It Speaks Your Language VoiceOver includes built-in voices that speak over 21 languages including Bahasa Indonesian, Chinese (Cantonese), Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan), Dutch, English (U.S.), English (UK), English (Australian), Finnish, French (Canada), French (France), German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Thai, and Turkish. RE: Winamp and autotagging
Yes, now I know it's the play list and not explorer I'm trying to deal with. BTW do you know why the play list is now unreadable in JFW? It use to be readable, but I don't know when that stopped. I don't visit the play list often since I usually load play lists from a m3u file or context menu via explorer. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of David Edick Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2009 3:08 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: Winamp and autotagging Unfortunately, this is in the play list context menu. That's definitely an option, but not the best one for wanting to read a chapter at a time or something like that. I noticed most of the mp3 files on the Cd are about 15 minutes long. If you're using a hardware DAISY player you will want to run the line level audio or headphone output of your DAISY player to the line level input of your sound card and record from the line level input. RE: Daisy books onto mp3 players
I'm aware of the DRm and the victor reader. What I want is a way to convert/move the mp3 files on the CD to my mp3 player so I can listen to them in a logical order without needing the victor reader or the like. If you open the cd and just play one of the mp3 files using winamp or the like, it will play, but you can't tell by the file name which part it belongs to. So I'm looking for a way to get the mp3 files from the cd to an mp3 player in a logical order. A simple copy and paste won't do the trick, I've already tried it. Currently they are supporting Humanware's Victor reader Stream, and other Victor Reader players. This is due to publishers ristrictions due to Copywright law. What happens is that through a technology called Digital Rights management, D.R.M. for short, your player gets stamped with a key, this is done currently by purchasing a software package from RFBD for $20. Only players with the D.R.M. key stamped on them will allow the Daisy files to play. D.R.M. is also used in Books from N.L.S. and Audible.com. You can find the controversial explanations of D.R.M. for music and other Copywright texts and matterials on the Ellectronic Frontier Foundation's web site at: www.eff.org. I think one day, RFBD may support other players, but for now Humanware has the dominating market. I also recall that you can ship your Plextalk Players to RFBD to get the key installed as well. Hope this helps. Jeff At 08:29 AM 2/14/2008, you wrote: Hi all, I have a few daisy books from RFB D. Does anyone know how to get these books onto an MP3 player? Here anyone is entitled to set up a low power FM station with a maximum power of 1 watt, within two defined areas of spectrum. You don't have to apply for any license, just set up and go. The Radio Spectrum management group reserve the right to come and inspect your installation at any time and there are fines if you're over power. You also are required to do a station identification that provides contact details a minimum of every three hours. But that's it. Simple. And you'll find some of the best radio out there on those frequencies. Lots of niche and community broadcasters. Microphone recording on the fly
Hi all, I'm looking for a JFW friendly program that will allow me to record via a microphone with a simple hot key from anywhere on the computer. Say I hit control + alt + r, I want it to start recording and then stop again when I hit the same key stroke or another key stroke. I would like these hot keys to work no matter what program I'm in as long as that hot key combination isn't already in use for the application currently on in focus. Any ideas out there?
