RE: Urgent Help needed to uninstall Windows Media Player
John, This is an incomplete answer, but two pointers: WMP shows up in the "Program files X86" folder, which on my system is in the root of the C drive. This may be why you didn't realize WMP was already there, as it probably was. So, if you have Windows 7, go to Computer, then hard drive, then this folder. Second, WMP has obviously hijacked your file associations. Again, assuming (big assumption) you have Win7, open Windows search and type "file association," without the quotations. When it shows up, press enter and tab through the choices. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of john riehl Sent: Saturday, September 19, 2015 10:26 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: Urgent Help needed to uninstall Windows Media Player Hi, everyone. Re: Audacity help needed
Hi, In audacity to select some audio so that you can apply an effect, you have to select one or more tracks, and a time range. So in your case where you want to apply an effect to all the audio in one of the tracks, then: 1. Make sure that the desired track is selected, and the other one is not selected. (pressing enter toggles whether a track is selected). 2. Select a time range which covers all the audio in the selected track. To do this press J to move the cursor to the start of the audio in the select track, and then press shift+K to move the end of the selected time range to the end of the audio in the selected track. 3. apply the effect. Note that you can also change speed using the sliding time scale/pitch shift effect, if you set the initial and final tempo change settings to the same value. This effect produces better quality audio, but takes longer. When you say picture fact broken, what do you mean by this? For your information there's an Audacity4Blind mailing list on freelists: http://www.freelists.org/list/audacity4blind And there'a also a guide to Audacity for jaws users, which is also nearly all applicable to users of nvda and window-eyes: http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.1.0-Guide.html David. original message: Hi, I have to music tracks. Hello Alexandra: Older CD players normally do not play MP3 files, newer ones do. CDs have large files with the file extension .cda and when you copy them with Exact Copy, they are copied to the blank CD in the same format. In format .cda, a song normally occupies over 30 Megs, sometimes 50 Megs or higher, so only 15 or 20 songs fit in a CD, for it has a capacity of 700Megs. When we use a program to rip songs from the CD, that normally refers to converting them to a different format. Format can be lossless as is the case of for instance, the files with extension .wav, which retain the same quality and also occupy lots of room. There are many audio file formats, including some less known that are also losseless and occupy about half the room of a .wav, but there is always the trade-off of where to play it. Normally when you rip songs from a CD, you convert them to the MP3 format, that is with file extensions .mp3. The MP3 files occupy much less space and thus you can fit many more in a CD, perhaps 100 or more songs in a single CD with a 700 Megs capacity. MP3 files also come in different qualities, depending on bitrate and sample rate. Most people say the CD quality is 128K bitrate and 44100 sample rate, but while the sound approaches the quality of a .cda it is not quite the same. It is a trade-off, but MP3 files are very common and play in all modern CD players. You could use higher bitrates, up to 320K and they will sound a little better still, with larger file size. In summary, when you copy or rip a CD, you must select Audio Cd or Data CD and the former refers to .cda files, the latter to the format of your choice, MP3 being the most common. Now, if you want to rip CDs into Data Cds in formats such as .wav or .mp3, the simplest program to do it is called Singe. It will do either CDs or DVDs automatically, it determines what it is from its size, and it is very easy to select the files to put in it and burnthem. It is available from the Jaws Users website, I believe. Help needed with goldwave before I quit the program.
Hi, Has anyone done any tutorials of goldwave since 5.58? I am using 5.70 and hardly get any prompts with Window-eyes for the function keys. I can't understand the differences in the F11 properties when I set up for making a mic or line in recording. I don't want to pay the bucks for sound forge, because I don't need anything that complex. I need a good accessible program for editing files recorded from radio, or those needed to make a cd of my piano music? So, is the problem Window-eyes? or goldwave? Thanks for your help. Hi, Have you downloaded the Goldwave app from App Central, or installed the Goldwave set file. Go into Window-Eyes and hit Alt-F then F for factory Sets and install the Goldwave set. Hope this helps. Greetings, So far, the Jaws scripts (goldwave_5.57_jaws_scripts_1.60.zip) work fine with Version 5.70 on this WindowsXP Home and Jaws V10 system. Help needed with Best Buy HD radio
I apologize for asking this question here, but I completely struck out on Blind tech. I bought the now discontinued HD radio from Best Buy. This set is nothing to get excited about but does have a few nice features. I cannot seem to locate the accessible instructions for operating this radio, and I cannot recall how to save a station in the presets. I can delete a preset but can't save one. Please if anyone on list has this thing and knows the answer, please tell me how to save a preset. Additionally, if someone can point me to an accessible set of instructions I would be most grateful. Thanks for any assistance. Don Roberts To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Help needed with Best Buy HD radio
Don, Hold down the PRESET button that you are not using to delete. As I recall, the DOWN button deletes and the UP button stores. Remember, though, that presets are accessed in the order of their frequency and not the order in which you enter them which I think is poor. Re: Help needed with last.fm
Hi, I'd argue about the library of last.fm. They've got tons and tons and tons of music that has surprised me. I want neofolk, last.fm has all kinds of bands, pandora has much fewer. If I look at the psychedelic or dark ambient, or different styles of metal, and last.fm beats pandora hands down. Also, when getting into more obscure styles of music, say coil or the legendary pink dots, last.fm's recommendations are way better than pandora's. I'd not, for example, lump Depeche mode, or the Petshop boys in at all with the Legendary Pink Dots. Last.fm pulled some related acts, psychic tv, Nurse with Wound, etc etc, which is more a kin, also, some early industrial like Throbbing Grissle. Even with mainstream stuff, there are tracks off of albums that pandora does not have. I can't comment on spotify. Apparently, it's not accessible, and I hardly have any money to test it right now. twitter http://twitter.com/richardclayppol last.fm http://www.last.fm/user/lord_of_beer msn bellevue@gmail.com skype lord_of_beer - Original Message - From: James Scholes ja...@jls-radio.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 5:45 AM Subject: Re: Help needed with last.fm Brett Boyer wrote: Ok cool. Re: Help needed with last.fm
You misunderstood what I was saying. My point was that as a streaming service primarily, Spotify has a much larger library of streamable tracks than Last.fm. Last.fm has quite a vast selection, yes, but I was making a distinction between streamable and non-streamable tracks. Last.fm is, in my opinion, better than Pandora at recommending new music and helping me discover it on my own through manual browsing because of the huge amount of user-contributed content that is added, through scrobbling and wiki submissions, everyday. So you can be recommended artists and tracks even if Last.fm don't have them available to stream. That is an advantage it has over Pandora. I can't really compare Pandora and Last.fm's library of streamable music, as not living in the US I don't use Pandora that often. When I did try it, I found that a lot of the music it was recommending were artists popular in the North American market, and not a lot of it was to my tastes. Hi, I've not had last.fm recommend anything to me that it couldn't stream, maybe it's dew to copyright where you are? Every last song it's recommended I could stream. Oh, I know what you are talking about. you can't stream them on demand, but in many cases, you can add the artist to your library, and the track will come up. That's way more common with more popular bands. The bands I listen to tend to be a lot of brit ausie german bands that don't care, so I don't tend to hit that problem so much. I remember encountering it with enigma. I understand now. twitter http://twitter.com/richardclayppol last.fm http://www.last.fm/user/lord_of_beer msn bellevue@gmail.com skype lord_of_beer - Original Message - From: James Scholes ja...@jls-radio.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 12:11 PM Subject: Re: Help needed with last.fm You misunderstood what I was saying. Hi, Let's say that you type in an artist from the main page, then click on the artist. Now, you'll want to play artist's radio, which will play similar artists to the band. If you type in say technical death into the field, you can play technical death tagged radio. As you can see, I'm something of a metal fan myself. Hi, There's multi tag radio and myulti artist radio. In both situations, pick upto either 3 tags, or 3 artists of any style, and it will create a station. I use the old winamp scrobbler and scrobble stuff to last.fm, so it has a good idea of my musical tastes. After a few songs, you can have it play your recommended station. If you'e using firefox, there are shortcut keys for next song, bann song, love song, pause, and resume. I've never gotten these keys to work in internet explorer. If one makes different friends, one can listen to a single friend's station, or reciently played tracks by all friends. The bad news is, no way to change the volume to my knowledge in the web site. Re: Help needed with last.fm
There seems to be some confusion here about Last.fm features and which ones can and cannot be used with Winamp, so let me try and clear it up. Scrobbling: Scrobbling is the act of submitting the tracks you play in Winamp or the media player of your choice to Last.fm so that they show up on your profile. This data is used at the very core of Last.fm, it's what makes the service work. Submitting the songs you play on your computers or other devices is what allows the site to recommend you new artists, albums and tracks. It also provides you with quite a nice platform with which to track your listening habbits. You can scrobble with the official Last.fm Scrobbler, which last time I checked was not accessible, or by using a plug-in for your media player of choice; there is one for Winamp, foobar2000, etcetera, and you can also scrobble from within Spotify if that's your thing. Last.fm Radio: This is the portion of the Last.fm service which allows you to stream tracks from their online library. You cannot, I repeat not, stream individual tracks or albums on-demand as you can with Spotify. The radio service is designed to play either a selection of music that you like, music that Last.fm thinks you'll like, or music that your friends and people with similar tastes to you like. Without using a piece of 3rd party software as a proxy, you cannot play these radio stations in Winamp, however the playback controls on the website are accessible and the music you play in the Flash player will be scrobbled to your profile. Hope that helps, and I'll chime in again if there's anything else people don't understand about the service. I've been a long-time user of both Last.fm and Spotify, so am quite well-aquainted with them. -- James Scholes http://twitter.com/JamesScholes To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Help needed with last.fm
Hi, I'm not talking about the ability to play music from within the player, but merely to scrobble i.e. send data about what you're listening to on winamp back to the last.fm server. For that to work, the tracks have to be added to winamp's library, but don't have to be played through the library. The external players for last.fm will only work for subscribers. if you are one, try speakon. Google something like speakon last.fm or something. Read the manual before using it. The author created this suit of applications with his personal use in mind, and he likes using it, lying in bed, with a numbpad. twitter http://twitter.com/richardclayppol last.fm http://www.last.fm/user/lord_of_beer msn bellevue@gmail.com skype lord_of_beer - Original Message - From: Mike Edwards m...@ultraemail.us To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2012 3:56 PM Subject: Re: Help needed with last.fm I've never gotten it to work with winamp, just use flash, but I haven't tried for 3 or so years. Re: MP3 help needed
Hi DJ, Thanks for the great suggestion below. It looks like a really nice program and it looks like it will work well with Window-Eyes alright. However, I am wondering if you can at least point me in the right direction in learning the Wave Pad program. I am given the responsibility of producing multiple copies of sermons done in an mp3 format. The reason why I am interested in working with a program like Wave Pad is that there are no track markers on any of the original sermon CDs. I would like to be able to place track markers say every5 minutes for convenient skip points for our members. That's about all I need to be able to do right now. In the future, I want to produce my own radio broadcast ready sermon CDs. But that's another subject for sometime later on this summer. But for now, I could use your help in at least getting me started in the right direction in understanding Wave Pad fundamentals so I can better format these weekly sermons for our members. Even if you refered me to some beginners reading materials that would be great. The key word here is the word - beginning. grin BTW, all of the sermons are between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours in length. Re: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast
That's the problem. You need a headset that isn't USB. USB headsets can only use microhone output. If you get a headset that pluggs right into the soundcard you should be able to record your voice and speech - of course, this might depend, if your soundcard doesn't support the microphone in playback options. contact details: email: tcwoo...@shaw.ca and others msn: the_conman...@hotmail.com skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio - Original Message - From: Rob DeZonia robd1...@roadrunner.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 7:43 PM Subject: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast Hi everyone, I'm Rob. Help needed with Nero Express
Hi Folks, Well I'm not sure what has happened, but, once upon a time, I was able to make several copies of my CDs by setting the number of copies number. I can still do this, but now, Mero keeps the original cd in the closed drive drawer and starts re-copying copy number two over the same original CD. Another thing that is happening is that this time when I start the burn process, I am asked what and where to name the image file. I'm really not interested in saving anything on my computer. Is there a way to keep Nero from bringing this save dialog box up? I somehow think that Nero bringing up this save dialog box is part of the problem I am having with being able to make several copies at a time. Wow! and thanks much. The old player based on Windows Media Player still works. Kelly Ford discovered this and posted about it on the BlindTech list, and his instructions worked fine for me. Here's what he says. I've been able to make the WMP control work as of today. I set JAWS to read all graphics in the HTML page by pressing ins+v and choosing that graphic option. The default is only tagged. There are then two graphics listed as trans. I select the second of these and the WMP player is used to play audio.] Jonathan -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Gary G Schindler Sent: Tuesday, 1 April 2008 7:03 a.m. To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: MLB game day audio help needed John it just worked for me, scroll down the page and you will find the games. you will se the time, TV feed and the radio feeds to listen to the games. - Original Message - From: John Schwery [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 1:27 PM Subject: Re: MLB game day audio help needed Mike, I accessed your link from your post and didn't bookmark anything. earlier, Mike Pietruk, wrote: John Here is the link I always use: mlb baseball Multimedia Guide http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mediacenter/index.jsp When I click on that right now, I am shown today's games. I'm wondering if MLB has switched to Silver Light. Media player no longer works for me and I haven't downloaded Silver Light, yet. This started yesterday. Re: MLB game day audio help needed
Yes, GameDay has switched to SilverLight; MLB was testing this throughout spring training as an option. It now appears to be required as it offers visual enhancements. The biggest problem that I had with SilverLight was getting it installed; in fact, my sighted wife couldn't figure it out initially either as the mouse buttons weren't labeled. Eventually, she decided to just click on things at randomly and got it that way. On Sun, 30 Mar 2008, John Schwery wrote: I'm wondering if MLB has switched to Silver Light. Darrell Once installed, SilverLight should give you no hassles. And, as you are beta writing scripts for the forthcoming WE7, whatever issues remain (if any) probably can be addressed with that. No, I cannot; but personally this matters little as I have a separate speech synthesizer so I use the volume controls of the pc itself. Re: MLB game day audio help needed
I only tried it once this evening, but here's what I did. After installing the Silver Light earlier in the day, first I opened IEwent to mlb.com. Then I did the ins-f7 and hit A till I got to Audio. Then ins-f7 again and M till i hit Multimedia guide. Then ins-f7 again and w till I got to WGST which is what I wanted to listen to. I then had to log in and it came right in. The audio is no better than it was last year, which is too. bad. I don't know how to control the player, but I just listen to the games so I have no reason for further control. I may go back tomorrow and have nothing work at all, but that's my system that I'll continue to use until it doesnt work or until the end of the season, whichever comes first.
