OK, recomiled with a 64-bit Wish... still runs OK in Wine, hoping it doesn't
break anything out in the wild :)

http://msp.ucsd.edu/Software/pd-0.51-3test5.windows-installer-build2.exe

There was no change to the source tree - I just recompiled the tcltk package
which I stash elsewhere.

2020-11-03 Thread Christof Ressi
I agree that its probably preferred to have matching architectures
between Pd-core and Pd-GUI, but is it a requirement?

I would say yes.
Obviously, the wish app can have a different architecture than the core.
The only requirement is that the pdfontloader library has the same
architecture as the wish app.

But I agree it's good practice not to mix 64-bit and 32-bit software
within a single application, unless there are compelling reasons.

Why not?

I would say yes.

afaict the problem lucarda is describing comes mostly from the fact
that wish.exe and pdfontloader.dll have different archs. (or is this
what you were saying).

Yes, that's what I was saying. If previous versions of the windows 64
bit build worked fine with a 64 bit pdfontloader, then it's because Pd
game with a 64 bit tk, so it follows that is what's needed in this case.

People have gotten confused int the past because the "app" has a different
architecture from reality... I think it's best if I go ahead and recompile
the new Wish for 64 bits and offer each with its own.

2020-11-03 Thread Lucas Cordiviola

Hi Miller,

On Windows 64bit builds starting from Pd 0.51.3-test2 you have switched
tcl/tk-8.6.8(64bit) to 8.6.10(32bit).

Was it intentional to change the arch?

Pdfontloader.dll (64bit) has stopped loading and Pd falls-back to
courier font.
