[PD] Discussing, exchanging pd-generated music

2018-03-25 Thread jlistshit
OT question: What other list might exist to discuss/exchange etc mostly the
music that people produce with PD, rather than the technical details? Open to
all styles here, though with a focus on generative, electro-acoustic,
composition, not very IDM interested.

Thanx in advance.

Pierre, thank you for the repost.

I hadn’t seen your first post in the archives before.

I use no -nogui modes, so I’ll just continue to use 0.47-1 in the meantime.

Or can i help the update somewhat?

In any case thank you very much for HOAlib, helped me a great deal recently,

[PD] HOAlib in 0.48-1 not working/recognized

2018-02-16 Thread jlistshit
Hello everyone, i only switched from 0.47-1 to 0.48-1 yesterday (on OSX 10.9.5)
and can not seem to make HOAlib and Cream running.

Is there anything substantial to path recognition or file registering, which
might have changed in the meantime?

Hoalib is v 2.2 including the cream lib, that came with the install, and plus
the recommended v2.2 additional patches installed as well.

Objects inserted in patch appear to dashed, although Pd window states success
messages such as "/Library/Pd/Cream/Cream.pd_darwin and succeeded” etc.

In 0.47.1 this install worked with bith the 32 and 64 bit version, is there an
issue now with 0.48-1.

Thanx for any pointers to solution!

Thanx for the stabs repost, hadn’t seen that before.
Of those two layouts i like Dan’s version more, as the “Retina” version gets
too foggy here. I am not using etina, but my eyes like maximum contrast.

The new font, DejaVu Sans Mono works better in the Retina version, though, as
it has sufficient weight there to display well at smaller icon sizes.

Eyes on an overfilled dashboard love this.

[PD] Equal panning formulas

2016-12-04 Thread jlistshit
Please excuse this question not entirely being related to Pure Data.

If i feed values 0-1 from linear [hsl] into either

[expr sqrt(1-$f1); sqrt($f1)]

or

[expr cos(1.57 * $f1); sin(1.57 * $f1)]

i essentially get the same set of output values, but with different input
values. Obviously 0.5 puts both formulas to output 0.707 on both sides, but
only extremes or center position input values (0, 1, 0.5) output the same
results.
The square root function leads to locations more near to the center, the other
one has a wider image.

A. Which one is the correct one from an engineering view point, and where are
special cases which might lead to using the other one instead?

One of those cases occurs to me, when i have a foreground signal with a wide
stereo image, but want a stereo reverb generated from this to be yet stereo,
but responding stronger in the center.

B. What if i want to favor the center even more, though without leaving the
idea of equal power panning (ah ja, mix it with a mono signal…, but which of
the two formulas will i have to use then???)

Thank you very much in advance.

If you go to your audio preferences and switch off/untick “Use callbacks” the
problem might disappear, it did so here, although i don’t know exactly why.

Besides that, are your Input Devices never storing their state, when you Save

Hope it helps, maybe someone with more insight into the intestines can shed

This happens to me, when i open a patch, which i saved before with more than
the main window open. In other words, if there is an underlying subpatcher
open, then the command-E might turn the subpatcher into editing mode, instead
of the main patcher in front.

Best

Re: [PD] Spring Reverb?

2016-04-18 Thread jlistshit
Hi, i had looked into this before (not in PD). When you search for the
modelling of a metal helix you'll get into intense math pretty quickly

(see
https://www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/1842/3718/BilbaoS_A%20Virtual%20model.pdf?sequence=1
 )

so i decided to copy params from typical spring reverbs into delay chains.
A simple version looks like this
two delay chains, 25 and 40 ms (typical accutronic spring tank from guitar
amps),
each with feedback through an allpass filter, which should allow to smear the
HF usually in a range of max 1ms.
add faders for
- the delay time (ratio 2.5:4 - i prefer to have a range of 2.5 to 125 for the
25ms delay chain, the second delay chain x 1.6),
- the amount of feedback
- the amount of smear on the feedback.
- a control for randomization (see LFO thing below)

Unfortunately i am not aware of an allpass filter object for PD, as i use only
vanilla, but i am sure you'll find one.

Additionally, to create more interesting pictures, you can
- add an LFO per delay chain with a line object set to 500 (to create a sort of
glide) to modulate the delay time slightly or heavily.

Like i said, i didn't do this in PD yet, only in maxmsp and on patchblocks,
but the idea works fine (gritty!) without heaving to go into heavy math.

My patchblocks patch is here:
http://patchblocks.com/groups/patch/shattuh-02-spring-reverb-emulation

And someone made a video of how it sounds here (patchblock on right side runs
the shattuh patch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_e3hrkLRAc

Best of luck :)

[PD] vanilla / iterate through audio in array

2016-03-08 Thread jlistshit
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I'm a composer from Berlin.

This question might have been asked before:
In PD vanilla: How can i detect jumps from negative to positive values in an
array?

I am using until with tabread, and just that little bit of porcessing, which
gives me a bang or a 1, when the phase changes, is missing.

Any insight appreciated and thank you in advance.

I recently restarted using PD vanilla (and bound to this version mainly to
program FX for the Hoxton Owl).
I am a long time maxmsp user, the use of a restricted object set as in PD
vanilla is another challenge, though.
