I've been successful with stationing myself at 12-13 km from the start.
It still gives you a bunch of runners (10-15), but clears out the riff-raff.
I don't know where you are on the route, but shooting from a fixed
vantage point is not so bad.

I dunno how you can recover the DNG files if they're corrupted. You
might try loading them with Bridge if you have Photoshop CS2, or ACR
if you have PS CS2 or PSE 3-5.
But please remember the first rule of software development:
NEVER trust pre-release software.
ALWAYS back up all data files
That's a nice shot. The blue sky and star effect don't pop quite as
much as I have seen in other images, but that's not necessarily a bad
thing. Is it generally true that the more you stop down the bigger
the star effect?

came out more with cleaner yellows than I was ever able to get with a
Minolta Dimage slide scanner, Epson 2450 flat

tone anyway.

picture. It's just a blue grey colour, getting darker at the top of frame,
