Rick - This is a shot in the dark with the disclaimer that I'm a Windows guy, not a Mac guy.  But...Knoppix has saved my bacon several times when a hard drive wasn't recognized by computer's OS.  I was able to mount the defective drive and copy the data to a new drive with no problems.  It
