I like these.
If you could figure out a way to disguise the feeder, or put some
nectar inside some real flowers, you could have some truly killer
shots.
Rick ?
I know someone who uses an artificial flower he rigged up so he can
remotely fill it. Doesn't have to go over
Yikes! That's all considerably more elaborate than my method -- sitting
on the front porch with my camera. I may have to give the artificial
flower thing a shot, maybe improvising some kind of gravity-fed type thing.
I did get a couple more feeders yesterday, though.

So, yesterday I was in our pool, when I noticed a hummer come to the
feeder that was not more than 25 feet from the pool steps. She stayed
for quite a time, taking more than 20 sips and resting on the little
perch attached to the feeder two or three times. Of course, I

The concern about red dye was with relation to the dye used decades
ago, which is no longer being used for anything. The red dyes used
today seem to be safe, and are also used in human food products.
That being said, there is no evidence that hummers are more attracted
to the sight of red dye,

Thanks, Dan.
From what I gather, having the red dye may be useful in initially
attracting them to a feeder, simply because they seem to be drawn to the
bright color. But, once they've established the feeder as their own, the
color is just extraneous.

I would be thrilled to get shots like this, they are rare to even see
around here and yours are technically excellent.
Thanks for sharing them!

Thank you, Rick.
I was lamenting the presence of the feeder in the photos just the other
night, and how I wish I could find a better, or more natural-looking
kind of feeder to attract them. I hadn't

Thank you, Dan.
I had a tough time getting shots of them at first, but now that they
seem to be getting used to me, it wasn't all that difficult. The
toughest part was getting enough DOF and shutter speed. I finally bumped
the ISO up to 400, and that seemed to be about right for f/7.1 - f/8,
