Happened on the K10D, the K7, and to some extent still with the K5.

Rob, Rob Rob, My Dear Rob, you must carry a second camera always - be
it a simple PS - for that very special occasion that is dearer to you
than your life.
Take it easy, the best equipment whether Pentax, Nikon, Canon or Sony
is bound to fail on if not you than me.
Now smile.

I had that same freeze problem 3-4 times in a couple years with the K20D,
only with third-party D-LI50 batteries almost empty and never with genuine
batteries.
Extracting and re-inserting the battery (or replacing it with a charged one)
always solved the problem on the spot.
With the K-5, it

It never happened with my *istD or K10D. I don't recall any such thing
with K-7. With K-5 it happened may be two or three times. Each time
merely pulling the battery and putting it immediately back did the trick.
Apparently mileage varies.

I don't think my k-5 has ever locked up. My k-7 did once. A battery pull fixed
it. Pentax isn't the only one. Canons and nikons can lock up too. If my camera
did this regularly I would assume something is wrong.
