FAT is the default for removable media, zip disks, floppies, and CD's use
variations
on FAT. If you just format a card using a PC it should use FAT.

You shouldn't need to use a PC or Mac to format the CF card, simply pop
it in the cam
Hi Paul
I know that Nikon and Lexar cards had problems in the early stages. This might be the
case
for the
early Pentax digitals.
Not a solution just a try to make you feel better response.

Paul, first you must format the card within the *ist D. It's the first
command on the menu, I think. Have you done this?
If you've formatted it and the camera won't recognize it, then either
piece of equipment could be defective. The *ist D seems to have a high
defect rate (based on posts here)
it has to be FAT-16 or FAT-32 format. the camera should have done that.

Actually, I don't know what format the Lexar software puts on the card.
I used their formatting tool, not the Mac's. It's supposed to be the
standard factory format.

No, but I think it was formated as a PC disk when I got it, and it
didn't work. I guess I'll have to pick up another card (not a WA) and
see if that works. I can't imagine that the card is defective, since
the computer sees it. I bought it from B&H, and they listed it as an
accessory for the *i
No, but I'm going to buy another one tomorrow. I'll pick up a
conventional 256 or 512, and see if that works.
