I got one and my 6 year old grandson loves to hack with it. Very good
sounding. Santana plays the super duper $3000 version of this.

Those are nice guitars if you don't mind the neck. I've been spoiled
by Parker and Ibanez and their ultra-thin necks, That thick neck isn't
my thing. But I'll take one of those over a $3000 Gibson LP any day.

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to plug that amp in?
I don't see any provision for switching the mains voltage to 220v.
I just used the web link from a Google search. The actual amp I bought

If he's got a PC in that room, I'd suggest a Line6 Guitarport,
otherwise the Line6 Spyder III 15 is a good choice for a small room
and portability.

I think a Tele is the perfect choice. The Mexi ones
are fairly well-made, too. The Tele body is good for
novices in that it's easy to play with a strap or when
sitting down, which is not the case with Strats or
other contured bodies.
I have a Tele I built and I play it more than my other
guitars.

One of my regrets is I let a nice little AC15, back when they were still

I've always been fond of Tele's, nice guitars, especially for a Fender.
What sort of music does your son play? Tele's are good classic rock
and country guitars, but most current stuff is played on a super-strat
type guiter like an Ibanez RG or Jackson Dinky.
