If the aperture blades are noticeably slow, the lens is worthless without investing in a CLA, and even then it may be useless depending on the cause of the problem. You have no way of knowing how slow the blades are, or if they are slow a consistent amount at each exposure and at each aperture.

how much over exposure will really depend upon how slow the blades are. A minolta 135/3.5 i have come across had so slow blades that you can presume your are always shooting at f3.5 :) I have heard once the oil sets in, it only gets worse slowly. But thats hearsay :) On Thu, Mar 14, 2002 at

It may not be oil. I lost my wonderful Bow-Wow Takumar to water damage, and the only noticeable symptom was a slow diaphragm. The shop looked at it, and sent me a very devastating note, outlining the problems and the chance of recovery. I put the lens in a shoe box and buried it in the back

Tiger, You ought to test it. My recollection is that I've had 2 M 28/2.8's with the problem. They do show overexposure. It's a matter of closing the aperture before the shutter fires. The blades are spring loaded and held wide open while you focus (open aperture metering). When you press
