I showed the image to my wife - she said they had something similar in
Salisbury, Rhodesia, when our kids were small. The outings were known as
"play dates".

There were 3 organized play groups scattered around the park that morning. I’ve
passed through that park many times (though usually before 9am) ahd haven’t
seen them before.

Rittenhouse Square, as well as the park near our house and the nearby cemetery,
are maintained through the energies of “friends” organizations that hold
periodic cleanup days, lobby the city government, and raise money. They were a
mess when we moved here 40 years ago.

Nice gallery.  Almost a shock to see the tall buildings at the end after
so many wilderness scenes.  

Re: 2nd quarter faves

Both very nice, but especially the first one.  Really like the side
lighting as it brings out the texture of the bark and evergreen
needles.  The bright area in the upper right corner does tend to draw my
eye in that direction.  Perhaps you could tone that down some or just
add a little vignette.

Re: PESO: An old country graveyard

2022-07-06 Thread John Sessoms
Added an exposure adjustment layer to make the whole scene brighter and
masked it with black, then painted in with white on the mask to reveal
the brighter image on just the headstones.

Had to burn in the inscriptions to keep them legible.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/jb_sessoms/52197461757

You can click back & forth between the two images to compare them.

I still like the original better, but might go back to that exposure
adjustment layer & tone it down a bit. Try to find a happy medium in
between the two images.

I did use layer masks on curves & levels to make the headstones pop  &
NIK filters to push contrast as far as I could to try and make the
headstones more readable.

The original RAW file had almost no contrast between the stones & the
inscriptions.

I'll take another look & see if I can bring the stones up a bit more,
and maybe post a substitute if I think I can do better.

One might use the brush in LR to brighten the headstones a stop or so.

Been kinda' saving this one for the Fourth of July.

My mom used to live up near Roxboro, NC and there was a back way I
could drive up there from Raleigh that avoided most of the major
traffic.

I passed this old graveyard along the way whenever I'd go up to visit
her.

It's just a simple place with rocks for grave markers and simple
crosses made from PVC pipe. Nothing to mark it out as special, but
then one day I noticed the three headstones and stopped to look at
them more closely.
