The visitor's center is basically a café and souvenir shop. There is also a theater showing a 8 minute film on the history of the castle. Ah, thanks for satisfying my curiosity. :) There is some nutcase online who thinks that the visitor's center is an eyesore, and that Historic Scotland wants

I have to agree with Vic. There's nothing wrong with buying third-party lenses if you're on a budget and you want a certain focal length, or a zoom. The lens might turn out to be just fine. I have several and I enjoy using them all, and I get good results with them. On the other hand, I don't

Cotty, did you by any chance visit Urquhart Castle? Because I understand there's a new visitor's center there. I was there back in 1993, did the lake cruise and the Nessie Experience. Had a great time there. Inverness really is a pretty little town. Another piece of trivia I recall about the

Other special characters are available the same way, but I don't remember the codes. You can also start the Character Map program that's in Start | Programs | Accessories folder, Or (in Windows) you can just go Start Run and type charmap and you'll get it. Just remember to make sure

Bob, AOL's anti-spam measures cause them to block my IP address, so I can't email you directly. But here is what I tried to send you yesterday (apologies to everyone else on the list). Thanks very much for offering to sell to me and for finding those auctions on ebay for me. Anyway, I actually

FS Friday - KM + 50mm

2003-07-25 Thread Amita Guha
I just ordered a new body, so my KM needs to go. I would rate the condition an 8. There are some scratches on the silver parts but aside from that, it's in great working order. The meter's performance has been spotty in the past, but lately it's been working fine. The lens is an SMC Pentax-M 1:2

my trip to Adorama - monopod and more

2003-07-24 Thread Amita Guha
I finally made it down to Adorama today. I ended up with the Bogen/Manfrotto 3006 monopod - folds down to 20 inches, only weighs a pound. The only problem is that it's silver. Do I need to cover it up with batting tape to prevent glare? I completely forgot about that issue until I got home. :) I

can't fit my new Cokin polarizer in the holder

Help! I just got a new set of Cokin P filters and a holder today. Everything works great except the polarizer. I just can't get it to fit in the holder, yet it says P right on it. It is the Cokin P 164 Circular Polarizer. Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I need to exchange it for the right

I can't speak for the 550, but I have the 220 and I really enjoy using it. The user interface is intuitive and easy, IMO, and I imagine the 550 will be similar. The only caveat is that the range on the flash is rather short - if you want anything beyond about 8-10 feet, you're out of luck. I

mail-to labs for BW and 120 film

2003-07-22 Thread Amita Guha
I'm looking for a lab where I can ship my film. The only lab here in NY that develops 120 film the way I like it is now a little inconvenient for me to get to, and I haven't been impressed with the BW results from my local photo shop. Can anyone recommend a reliable place for me to send my film?
