I have a Pentax 645 kit on loan.
I asked the same question of the owner when I got it. He told me that
he'd never used anything but AA alkalines because even they last so
long it's just not an issue. I fitted a set of them on his
recommendation and have not had to change them yet, that was
Ok, I will then stay with the alkalines in the body. I do use the
medium format for big enlargements some of my customers requests. While
I have a K10D, for anything bigger than 16x20, I will use the 645. I
used to have a 6cm x 6cm format camera, but I sold it.
Thanks

Angel,
I cannot answer your question about the use of NiMH, because I have yet to try
them in my 645n.
This is because the alkaline batteries last so long in them. I recall checking
with a battery checker just about every time I use my camera after it has sat a
while and to be honest I think
Yes,
I can only recommend NiMH.
You can then safely shoot long exposures.

Anyone else? The owner has always used good Alkalines and they seem
to last forever, so I might just do that and not worry.

Thanks Scott.
I'd forgotten all about the medium format sections on photo.net ... :-)

Thank you, Peter!
I tested the 645 with a set of NiMH batteries and the rear body cap
in place. It's been sitting a while so the shutter release was a
little reluctant for a couple of presses, but that's cleared up
now ... and
Wow! For a 645 SLR, the mirror/shutter is VERY smooth in

I know it takes six AAs: NiCad, Alkaline and Manganese are listed in

Assuming I am enlarging to the same size (say, 8 x
10), how many more stops do I need to stop down on a
645 camera to give the same depth of field as 135 ?
Thanks !
