Aperture operation on film bodies

OK. I am clueless. I put the 18~55 DA lens on the K1000 body thinking it would only work at WO aperture because it has no aperture simulator. However, when I actually looked at a slow shutter speed, it appears to be stopping down to 16 or 22. I tried my other DA lenses and the same thing. Why is
