Thank you for everyones's input, I've been off line for a while (my dsl
connection was down).
I'm still not sure which way to go. but somehow ii'm favouring the
pentax partly because its a pentax :-)

Interetsting that the 16-45 does not vignette on full fram before you go
down to 20mm.

Hi everyone

concerns the choice of lens.
Namely between the:

Hi Patrick
The advantage of the Tamron is that it will also give me an ulta

reviews of the Tamron abound I have found very little info on it
when used with a film body.

Hmmm. If you're like most of us (not all, mind you, but most), use of
the lens on your 35mm film bodies won't be an issue.

Patrick,
I don't have either lens. You may already know this, but here goes anyway.
The PhotoZone survey for the Tamron has input from 6 users for 35mm film and
13 for APS-C dSLR; these two data sets are very consistent and rate the lens
quite highly for optical performance. The same PhotoZone

Thanks for the URL I would be interested in hearing from users of
the tamron especially those who own / have used both the tamron 17-
35 di and the pentax da16-45.
Sorry I have neither but the Tamron 28-75 is very good FWIW.

I love the DA 16-45, but I haven't used the Tamron. Remember also that
Pentax is going to release a DA 12-25. That will provide an ultra wide
digital alternative.

Seems like just about all the new lenses are zooms ... what primes has

Two DA lenses, Shel:
DA 14 f2.8
DA 40 f2.8 Limited
Got the last one two days ago and am going to head out to test it in a
few minutes.
Two more DA primes are forthcoming -- at about 25 and 65 mm.

Hi Shel,
Pentax has already released a 40/2.8 pancake prime, a 50/2.8 macro, and
a 14/4 prime. A 50/1.4 is supposedly in the works. I think we can
expect a steady if slow stream of both primes and zooms.

all primes and recent releases (in Pentax frame of reckoning grin)

It's called volume. They are able to spread their design and tooling
costs over a far larger number of lenses sold.

I have the Tamron 17-35. Preliminary shooting hints that this might just
be a stunningly good lens. We'll see if further tests bear this out.
I've done a series of comparison shots between the Tamron 17-35, Tokina
